Cynthia Mae Gowdy-Ruffin, 96, transitioned into eternity with her heavenly Father in the early morning hours Thursday Aug. 4, 2022, at The Meadows at Osborne Park, Huron, from a lengthy illness.

She was born March 29, 1926, in Meridian, Mississippi, to the union of George and Mary (Irby) Gowdy. Ms. Gowdy attended Providence Baptist Church before her illness under the pastorship of Reverend Brown. Ms. Gowdy and her dear friend, Bernice Irby, served as a nurse and usher for many home going services for families in the community. She was employed by various restaurants in Sandusky as a cook. However, to Ms. Gowdy, the most important job to her was taking care of her family. She was loved, respected, and cherished in the community by both the young and the older generations.

She is survived by her son, Jerry Wayne Gowdy of South Carolina; four daughters, Cynthia Ann (Benjamine) Gowdy of Columbus, Mary Ann Hutton of Cincinnati, Jeanettes (Rudy) Agee of Sandusky, and Debbie Ruffin of Newark, New Jersey. She raised two of her grandchildren as her own, Davor Lamont (Megan) Gowdy or Sandusky and Ciara Gowdy of Columbus. She is also survived by 21 grandchildren; 81 great-grandchildren; and 28 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; four sisters, Lessie, Birtha, Minnie Gowdy, and Vergie Mae Hayes; nine brothers, Jeff, Oliver, Sherman, Ober Lee, Arvelle, John, Lavelle, and George; and son, John Wayne Gowdy Robinson.

Friends and family may call from 10 a.m. until time of Homegoing Services at 12 p.m. Friday, Aug. 12, 2022, at Emmanuel Temple Church, 128 East Adams Street Sandusky.
