Daniel "Dan" Sabo, 72, of Bellevue, passed away Tuesday, July 25, 2023, at The Bellevue Hospital.

He was born May 3, 1951, in Bellevue, the son of Charles and Virginia (Monarchi) Sabo.

Dan graduated from Bellevue High School in 1969 and Bowling Green State University in 1973, where he was a member of Phi Kappa Psi Fraternity. He spent his career as a fifth- and sixth-grade teacher in Bellevue at Lyme and Ellis elementary schools.

Dan wore his passion for Bellevue High School athletics on his sleeve. He coached Redmen football and basketball in his early years as a teacher, kept the scorebook for Redmen basketball for two decades, ran the scoreboard and announced lineups for Lady Red volleyball, and was a member of the Redmen varsity football stat squad.

He was an OHSAA Class 1 registered track and field and cross country official for 49 years and past President of Bellevue Area Track & Field Officials Association. He treasured the relationships built through his athletics involvement and was quick to acknowledge the success of his team's competitors and their supporters, even in the most bitter of rivalries.

Dan is survived by his wife, Angela "Angie" (Olsen) Sabo; children with former spouse, Diane, Denise (Mike) Brenner, Derek (Betsy) Sabo, and Dustin (Sarah) Sabo; stepchildren, Ryan Rathbun, Katie (Nate) Battelline, Cara (Evan) McNichols, and James (Cheyenne) Rathbun; 10 grandchildren; brothers, Dave (Ginny) Sabo and Dennis (Pam) Sabo; sisters, Deb (Bill) Myers and Diane (Mike) Hevel; many cousins, nieces, and nephews; and special aunt, Edith Morfier.

Dan was preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation for friends will be 2-7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 1, 2023, at Foos & Foos Funeral Service, 151 Yorkshire Place, Bellevue. To honor Dan, his family requests those attending visitation to wear shorts and Bellevue Redmen or Ohio State attire. Funeral Mass will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 2, 2023, at Immaculate Conception Church, 231 E. Center Street, Bellevue, with the Rev. Msgr. Charles Singler (St. Rose, Perrysburg) and Reverend Father Albert J. Beltz officiating.
