David Albert "Dave" Huffman, 88, of Catawba Island, passed away early Saturday, June 1, 2024.
Dave was born Jan. 29, 1936, in Bowling Green, to Albert Jesse and Ruth Jean (Westbrook) Huffman. He grew up in Sandusky, where he graduated from St. Mary High School in 1953. Dave attained a Bachelors of Industrial Engineering from University of Dayton in 1958.
Dave and Mary Jane (Trost) married Dec. 27, 1968. Together, they celebrated life with three sons, traveling the country and abroad, and active retirement at the Vineyards on Catawba. Mary Jane preceded him in death June 15, 2013, after 45 years of marriage.
Dave enjoyed a successful career in nuclear engineering, working for NASA (Plum Brook), Metropolitan Edison (Three Mile Island), and Toledo Edison (Davis Besse). Dave was proud to be one of the nuclear engineers tasked with resolving the crisis at Three Mile Island in 1979. He retired from Toledo Edison in 1993.
Dave was a faithful and dedicated servant of God his entire life. Dave and Mary Jane were very involved in the Immaculate Conception St. Vincent de Paul Conference. Dave was ordained a Permanent Deacon for the Diocese of Toledo in 1997 and assigned to Immaculate Conception Church in Port Clinton where he served faithfully on the Liturgy Team, Pastoral Council, and Social Concerns Core Team.
He is survived by his sons, Andrew (wife Gina) of Westlake, Jonathan of Lockport, New York, and Edward "Tedd" (wife Kelly) of Madison, Wisconsin; grandson, Skyler; and beloved cousins, Jean, Leona, Alicia, Clarann, Mary Francis, Susan, and Kathleen.
Visitation for family and friends to celebrate Dave's life will be 4-8 p.m. Sunday, June 9, 2024, at Gerner-Wolf-Walker Funeral Home, 216 Washington Street, Port Clinton, with a Vigil Service at 6:30 p.m.
Additional visitation will be 8:45 a.m. Monday, June 10, 2024, until the time of prayers at 9:15 a.m. at the funeral home. Funeral Mass will follow at 10 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 414 Madison Street, Port Clinton, with Most Reverend Daniel E. Thomas, Bishop of Toledo, presiding.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Immaculate Conception St. Vincent de Paul Society.
