Huron
David L. Johnson of Huron passed away Oct. 15, 2024, after living a full and happy life of 94 years.
David was born March 18, 1930, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, to Clarence and Vivian Johnson.
He graduated from Rufus King High School in Milwaukee and shortly thereafter joined the Navy. He was a Naval Reservist while still in high school. He was a veteran of the Korean War serving aboard the aircraft carrier U.S.S. Valley Forge in the catapult crew and was deployed three times to the Korean war zone. He retired from New Departure in 1992. He had a great love of golf and was still an outstanding player at 86 years of age, his last game being under par. He was an excellent genealogy researcher and was a great help to many people "seeking their roots." He leaves behind an enormous amount of family history documentation for future generations.
He married his one and only Nancy Jane Grohol who predeceased him in 2016 after 61 years of marriage.
He is survived by his brother, Dick (Gladys) of Prescott Valley, Arizona; three children, David Jr. (Cindy) of Vanderpool, Texas, Tim (Jennifer) of Huron, and Lynne Petzold (John) of Huron; nine grandchildren, Bree, Tavin, Jesse, Christina, Christopher, Ross, Alex, Allison, and Cody; and not to be forgotten are 13 great-grandchildren scattered hither and yon.
Private family services will take place at a later date.
Foster Funeral Home & Crematory, Huron, is assisting the family.

Grandpa from the moment I first saw you to the last day on earth with me beside you I have been blessed. Blessed to learn from you, blessed to get life advice from you, blessed that you raised such a good dad (my dad), and blessed that you did so much for me and my family on your days that you had on this earth. From the genealogy research you have done to all the family possessions that you have cherished from past and taught us about, we will also continue to teach this legacy that you have created. It was hard to write this but you always taught me to never forget the past and to learn about it. I write this to show how much you mean to us and to never forget you. We love you. May you rest in peace.

Grandpa, I will hold you in my heart forever. I have fond memories from watching you tend to your yard and plants to eating fake crab meat on the back patio. :) Maybe that´s where I get my love for plants! I still have my tiny rocking chair and I will cherish it forever. Rest peacefully. I love you, Bree
