David L. Noftz, 82, of Sandusky, passed away peacefully early Monday morning, Jan. 22, 2024, with family at his side at Stein Hospice Care Center, Sandusky.

He was born June 7, 1941, in Sandusky, the son of Carl August and Betty Jane (Wheeler) Noftz. He was a 1960 graduate of St. Mary's High School. In 2009, David was honored by being inducted in to the St. Mary's Central Catholic High School Athletic and Achievement "Hall of Fame" for his achievements in football and basketball.

He worked at New Departure-Hyatt Inc., (a Division of General Motors), later known as Dephi Inc., where he worked in skilled trades as a tinner for nearly 30 years, retiring in 2006.

Over the years, he enjoyed golfing in different local leagues (UAW, City, etc.), hunting, and going out fishing. His family will especially remember him for how he found joy in making hundreds of rosaries throughout the years at his home, which he were sent to a variety of places around the world. For over 30 years, he led a Friday Morning Prayer Group at his home. David was faithful member of Holy Angels Catholic Church.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Mary J. (Lindsley) Noftz, whom he married Aug. 3, 1963; son, Brent (Robin) Noftz; daughter, Karen (Barry) Gill; four grandchildren, David (Heather) Noftz, Dustin (Kelly) Noftz, Jonathan Gill, and Brian Persing; four great-grandchildren, Justin, Aubrey, Riley, and Madison; two sisters, Linda (Richard) Dickman and Sharon Noftz; special friends of the family, Paul (Renette) Schlett; and nieces and nephews.

David was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Mary Lou Demore.

Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 26, 2024, at David F. Koch Funeral and Cremation Services, 520 Columbus Avenue, Sandusky. Prayers will be recited at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 27, 2024, at the funeral home followed by Mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. at Holy Angels Catholic Church, 428 Tiffin Avenue, Sandusky. Fr. Zachary Brown will officiate. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery, Sandusky.
