David Stein Obituary

David Alan Stein

Jan 13, 1943 - Aug 24, 2022

Sandusky

David Alan Stein, 79, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 24, 2022, while in the care of Stein Hospice with his loving family by his side.

He was born Jan. 13, 1943, in Sandusky. David graduated from St. Mary's High School in 1961. He graduated from Villanova University in 1966 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. At Villanova, he sang with Jim Croce in Villanova Singers and began his life-long love of Villanova basketball. While at Villanova, he began his mastery of boisterously challenging referees, a skill which he perfected throughout his life. David was a fierce patriot with an unwavering love for his country. Commissioned as a U.S. Naval Officer, he served in Vietnam. He completed 30 years of meritorious service retiring as Captain. In 1980, he earned his Masters of Business Administration from Baldwin Wallace College.

Professionally, David was President of Universal Electric and Vice President of All-Phase Electric. He also served as President of Lake Erie Chapter of Professional Engineers. David was a community stalwart and proud son of Sandusky. He honorably served as Sandusky's Vice Mayor and as City Commissioner for eight years. He served as Chairman of Erie County Republican Party, President of Sandusky Kiwanis Club, and St. Mary's Elementary School Board. He was member of Sandusky Sailing Club and loved a juicy post-race Wednesday night burger. He could often be found on the A-Dock of Sandusky Yacht Club, where he was a long-time member. He enjoyed healthy debate as a member of Sandusky Torch Club and sang with Choral Society. Most of all, he admired the beauty of and sailing upon Sandusky Bay with his family. In retirement, David renewed his passion for golf and found deep friendships with the men with which he shared the course.

He married the love of his life, Carol Eishen, and they spent 54 rewarding years together. David became the Patriarch of his extended family. David and Carol remained adventurous explorers traveling domestically and internationally to visit their children and friends. Together, they created lasting memories through shared meals, family events, professional engagements, and worldwide adventures. Throughout his life, David was a fighter for what he felt was righteous, he spoke with passion, had an infectious smile, and was loyal to his family and friends.

David is survived by his wife, Carol Stein of Sandusky; children, Paul (Kristen) Stein of Matthews, North Carolina, Rebecca (Michael) Norton of Annapolis, Maryland, Christine (Christopher) Seyler of Sandusky, and Nathan (Alison) Stein of San Diego, California; grandchildren, David, Bridget, Max, Madalyn, Katie, Cordelia, Amory, and Oliver; brothers, Curt, Louis, and Joe; sister, Kathy; and many wonderful nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Ellen Stein; and sisters, Paula, Lorene, and Anne.

Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 2, 2022, at Toft Funeral Home & Crematory, 2001 Columbus Ave., Sandusky. Prayers will be recited at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 3, 2022, at the funeral home with Mass of Christian burial to follow at a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 429 Central Ave., Sandusky. Carol and Family:

David was a good friend in high school. We competed for a spot at the Naval Academy, which neither achieved. However we both served in the U. S. Navy, which makes us Shipmates. Our paths did not cross during service; I as a Naval Aviator and he as a Surface Officer. Shared memories with Dave at the 50th reunion of the Class of 1961, St. Mary's. Last saw him at a Sandusky Yacht Club Brunch. My spouse and I were visiting brother Todd and cousin Dan Shepherd, from Arizona. Dave shared his son Nathan is a fellow Naval Aviator.
Fair winds and following seas Shipmate and Friend. Rest in Peace.

Carol,

I was saddened to learn of Dave's passing. He was from the old neighborhood and a good person. When we were in high school and college I always enjoyed running into Dave and talking about our adventures. May he rest in peace a good man gone too soon.
