Deborah Scherer Obituary

Deborah A. "Deb" (Binting) Scherer

Jun 23, 1953 - Jul 28, 2022

Castalia

Deborah A. "Deb" (Binting) Scherer, 69, of Castalia, passed away unexpectedly Thursday evening, July 28, 2022, at Firelands Regional Medical Center, Main Campus, Sandusky.

Deb was born June 23, 1953, in Sandusky, the daughter of Robert Dwight and Marilyn Jean (Hare) Binting. She was a 1971 graduate of Perkins High School and later graduated from Providence School of Nursing, becoming a LPN. Deb worked as a nurse at Providence Hospital for over 30 years, moved on to Firelands Regional Medical Center, and finally in the Home Health Care Field for several more years before retiring.

Deb, loving wife, mother and grandmother, will be remembered by her family as a giving woman, in life, as well as, in death, as she has gifted herself to LifeBanc to help others that are in need. She was an involved member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and AMVETS Post #17 Ladies Auxiliary. Holding executive roles at the local and state level, she dedicated her time to our veterans as, President of the State AMVETS Ladies Auxiliary from 2021-2022 as well as the Leader for the Family Support Group for the National Guard (D Co. 612 Engineer Battlion and for the Troop C 2-107 Calvary). Over the years, Deb was also a Girl Scout Leader.

Deb is survived by her husband of 47 years, Eric D. Scherer, whom she married Sept. 20, 1975; three sons, Eric (Tera) Scherer of Mesa, Arizona, Matthew (Katherine) Scherer of Green, Ohio, and Christopher (Katie) Scherer of Bellevue; seven grandchildren, Travis, Sydney, Samantha, Christian, Gianna, Hayden, and Harlow; two brothers, Dan Binting of Sandusky and David Binting of Norwalk; and her nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; grandparents, Rolland and Dorothy Bovia; and several aunts and uncles.

It was her wish to be cremated. The family will receive friends 9 a.m. Monday, Aug. 8, 2022, until the time of Mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 429 Central Avenue, Sandusky, with Fr. Zach Brown officiating. Following the service, a celebration of life for Deb will be at AMVETS Post #17, 307 Putnam Street, Sandusky.

Memorial contributions can be made in her memory to AMVETS Post #17 Ladies Auxiliary Scholarship Fund, 307 Putnam Street, Sandusky, Ohio, 44870.

Arrangements have been entrusted to David F. Koch Funeral and Cremation Services, 520 Columbus Avenue, Sandusky.

My deepest sympathy to Eric and the family. Deb was a wonderful beakon of light who shined bright through some of the darkest of times. She and Eric at AMVETS POST #17, Sandusky have been "blood loyal" advocates for the great veterans of OUR nation. She now walks with the Lord ....smiling down upon us to carry out her work that she dedicated herself to. Yes ..... We will miss her greatly. We are much more thankful to have been blessed with her beautiful soul while she was with us here. Godspeed Deb!!! .... Love you gal .... See you on the "Upside" someday!
