Diane "Judy" (Riesterer) Opper, 80, residing in Huron, went home to be with the Lord Monday afternoon, Aug. 22, 2022, at Providence Care Center surrounded by her loving family.

Judy was born Jan. 7, 1942, in Sandusky, to the late Paul J. and Alice M. (Scott) Riesterer.

Judy graduated from Sandusky High School in 1960. She married her high school sweetheart, Rich C. Opper, on March 26, 1960. After getting married, they lived in Norfolk, Virginia, while Richard served his country in U.S. Navy. Judy was a basic logic assistant at JCPenney for 25 years. She was a member of Faith Church for 30 years, where she was a member of the choir and a greeter for many years. Judy also previously volunteered at Care & Share. She enjoyed spending time with her family and always made holidays special for everyone. She also loved going on cruises with her family.

Judy is survived by her four daughters, Lori (Thomas) Jimenez of Vermilion, Kim (Mark) Howard of Sandusky, Cheryl (Dan) Vassallo of Huron, and Nicole (Vince) Cooper of Norwalk; grandchildren, BreeAnn (Carmen) Flynn, Kristina Howard, Heather (Tony Lewis) Davis, Matthew (Lindsey) Vassallo, Justin Davis, Amanda (Rick) Holbrook, Lindsay (Scott) Keiser, Jacob (Kayla) Cooper, Nicholas Howard, Benjamin (Taylor) Cooper, Hannah (John) Gartner, and Moriah (Jacob) Yazijian; 24 great-grandchildren; brothers, Pete (Glenna) Riesterer and Richard (Nancy) Riesterer; sister-in-law, Beverly (Jack) Savage; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

In addition to her parents, Judy was preceded in death by her husband, Rich, in 2017; granddaughter, Ally Vassallo; grandson-in-law, Dustin Villarreal; sister and brother-in-law, Dee and Dick Shaffer; and father and mother-in-law, Milton and Laureen Opper.

Cremation has taken place. Friends may gather 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 25, 2022, until the time of Judy's memorial service at 11 a.m. at at Faith Church, 1320 E. Strub Rd., Sandusky. Pastor Ken Hiser will officiate. Burial will be at a later date at Perkins Cemetery, Sandusky. Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory is assisting the family with arrangements.

Judy was such a blessing to me when I worked at JC Penney she made me feel welcomed and loved like I was part of her family! I will always remember Judy for her smile! Judy was & always will be an angel to me!
