Emma Jane (Seeholzer) Matso, 89, residing in Sandusky, was called to her heavenly home Wednesday, Aug. 10, 2022, surrounded by her family at her daughter's home.

Emma was born March 12, 1933, on Kelleys Island, Ohio, to the late Hugo and Henrietta (Lang) Seeholzer.

Emma was the only graduate from Kelleys Island Estes School in 1951. She married the love of her life, Eugene R. Matso, in 1957, at St. Michael Catholic Church on Kelleys Island, and then moved to Sandusky to raise her family. She previously was employed at Erie County Courthouse and Sandusky City Schools. Emma enjoyed the simple things in life like family, friends, and her Holy Angels Parish, where she enjoyed helping on various committees and functions. She especially loved gardening, feeding the birds and squirrels, and spending time with her family. Her favorite place to be was sitting with her husband on the front porch swing of her childhood home on Kelleys Island. She considered that "Almost Heaven" and now, they are together again.

Emma is survived by her daughters, Brenda (Gene) Riedy, Marie (Matt) Roesch, Diana (Cory DeChance) Hiemstra, and Carla (Dave) Christian; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and one on the way; 11 grandpups; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

In addition to her parents, Emma was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene on Aug. 20, 2014; daughter, Theresa Ostheimer; and brother, James Seeholzer.

Friends may call at 9 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 16, 2022, until the time of Memorial Mass at 10 a.m. at Holy Angels Catholic Church, 428 Tiffin Ave., Sandusky. Father Jacob George will officiate. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Sandusky. Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory is assisting the family with arrangements.
