Ervin Lamont Owens, 57, of Sandusky, gained his wings and entered the pearly gates of Heaven on Thursday, Nov. 30, 2023.

Ervin was born Saturday, June 18, 1966, to Ervin and Mattie (Brown) Owens. The oldest of three children, he graduated from Sandusky High School in 1984 and while attending Sandusky, he participated in many sports, excelling in football. He received full sports scholarship to play football at University of Cincinnati, but injury sidelined him. He continued to get his degree in communication and worked as a production supervisor for companies in Cincinnati, Springfield, and Sandusky.

Ervin loved watching sports.

He is survived in life by his mother, Mattie Owens of Sandusky; children, Ariana Owens of Cincinnati, Aristen Owens of Atlanta, Georgia, and Darius Owens of Lexington, Kentucky; grandchildren, Anastasia Fontaine, Teion Thompson, and Jamel Thomson, all of Atlanta; sister, Annette (John) Earnest of Jacksonville, Florida; brother, Jamar Owens of Sandusky; and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Ervin Owens in 2019; maternal grandparents, Pervis D. Brown Sr. and Velma M. (Rollison) Pray; and maternal grandparents, Mervin and Mattie Owens.

Visitation for friends will be 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 9, 2023, until the time of Ervin's funeral at 12 p.m. at Ebenezer Baptist Church, 1215 Pierce St., Sandusky. The Rev. Clayton Howard will officiate and Minister Delores Burel will be the eulogist. Burial will follow at Perkins Cemetery.
