Eugene E. "Gene" Knauer Jr., 83, of Sandusky, passed away peacefully late Tuesday morning, July 1, 2025, with family at his side at Parkvue Health Care Center, Sandusky.

Born August 18, 1941, in Sandusky, son of Eugene Edward and Grace Olive (Lippert) Knauer Sr., he was a veteran, having served honorably in the U.S. Army.

Gene had worked for 40 years as a printer at American Crayon (later known as Dixon Ticonderoga) before retiring.

He loved spending time with family and friends, tending to his garden (especially his tomato plants), going out and about, socializing and gambling, and in his younger days, going fishing.

He is survived by a daughter, Vickie (Mike Andrews) Ayers of Sandusky; son, Jason Knauer of Sandusky; his four grandchildren, Joseph and Zander Knauer and Carlie and Corey Ayers; his sister, Donna Knauer of Sandusky; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Gene was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife of 59 years, Stephanie M. (Filipucci) Knauer, August 27, 2023.

It was his wish to be cremated. Memorial service for Gene will be 10 a.m. Friday morning, July 11, 2025, at the funeral home, with Deacon Jeff Claar officiating.

The family suggests that memorial contributions be made in his memory to Stein Hospice Service, Inc., 1200 Sycamore Line, Sandusky, OH 44870.
