Fern DeLamatre, 91, of Huron, passed away Friday, Jan. 13, 2022.

Cynthia Mary Ferneaux 'Fern' was born Dec. 5, 1931, in St. John's, Newfoundland, Canada to Hedley and Emma Mae (Ash) Bartlett. Fern was the youngest of eleven children and was the last surviving sibling from that large clan. She moved to the United States with her parents when she was 16 years old and graduated from Huron High School.

She married Ward DeLamatre in 1952, and together they had three sons, John (Robin), Scott, and Ty (Connie). She enjoyed all of her boys' activities. She also enjoyed her six grandchildren, Jackie, Mariel, Derek, Ben, Troy, and Brandon; and five great-grandchildren, Edie, Sunny, Annie, Naomi, and Jacob.

Fern worked part-time at Huron Sports Center and Attic Boutique. Alongside her husband Ward, Fern's long-term project was developing the three houses and five rental units on the family property. Without a doubt though, her favorite job was as a wife and mother. Her house sparkled. Ward would say that his house was so clean, you could eat off the floor. She learned to knit and crochet from her mother and oldest sister, and she knitted year-round to make sweaters and caps for every family member. She loved to cook and entertain, especially for her closest friends, and there was often a houseful of family on Sundays for dinner. She also loved to bake, especially cookies, and she sent tins of cookies to her grown children at Christmas time for years. Fern also loved to dress. Everything from her dress, jacket, hat, purse and jewelry matched. She surely had more hats than any woman in town.

Fern is survived by her husband Ward; her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Please join the family for visitation 3-6 p.m. Friday, Jan. 20, 2023, at Foster Funeral Home, 410 Main St., Huron 44839. Her funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 21, 2023, at First United Presbyterian Church, 225 Williams St., Huron, where Fern and Ward were members for more than 70 years.
