Franklin "James" Ostheimer, 86, Sandusky, passed away peacefully Thursday, April 10, 2025, in Darby Glenn Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Hilliard.

He was born in Sandusky, May 29, 1938, and served in the U.S. Army HQ Battery 5th Division Artillery, Fort Carson, from 1963-1967 as a chaplain's assistant. Prior to leaving for basic training, James worked at Norwalk Truck Line and returned there after his time in the service. He then began working at New Departure, transitioning to General Motors, Saginaw, and retired in 1992. After retirement, James partnered with Steve Spitler and created an independent business venture, S & J Logistics.

James was an active member of Boy Scouts of America, having joined the organization as a youth, earning his Eagle Scout badge, and continued as a Scout Leader for Troup No.83 long after his sons earned their Eagle Scout badges. He was also an elder and key member of St. John's Lutheran Church, St. Rt. 99, Monroeville, and American Legion Post No.83, Sandusky.

James is survived by his sons, Brian Ostheimer and Chad (Jennifer) Ostheimer; grandsons, Zachary and Owen; sisters, Judith (Charles) Scroggy, Sandra Ostheimer, and Donna Ostheimer; brother, William (Lee Ann) Ostheimer; sisters-in-law, Sharon L. Ostheimer and Sandra Boetticher; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Sharon (Boetticher) Ostheimer; parents, Franklin J. and Minnie (Ackerman) Ostheimer; brothers, David Ostheimer and Alvin "Butch" Ostheimer; brother-in-law, Harold "Sonny" Boetticher; and close family friend, Lawrence "Larry" Seiler.

Friends may call from 10 a.m. until time of memorial services at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 16, 2025, at Toft Funeral Home & Crematory, 2001 Columbus Ave., Sandusky.

In lieu of flowers, family requests donations be made to Bella Care Hospice, 110 Polaris Parkway, Suite 302, Westerville, OH 43082 or via their website at: www.celebratelife-foundation.net.
