Fredrick Neal Obituary

Fredrick Bart Neal

Jan 15, 1964 - Jul 28, 2025

Sandusky

Fredrick Bart Neal, 61, residing in Sandusky, passed away early Monday morning, July 28, 2025, at home after a lengthy illness.

Bart was born January 15, 1964, in Norton, Virginia, to the late Joseph Grady Neal and Freddie Hope (Poore) Elmer.

Bart graduated from Sandusky High School in 1982. He was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps who proudly served his country from 1982 to 1986. He retired in 2018 after many years as a union roofer with Local 44 Roofers and Waterproofers. Bart enjoyed volunteering for OHGO. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing, woodworking, leather work, hunting and spending time with his family, friends and especially his grandchildren.

Bart is survived by his four daughters, Jessica Neal of Fremont, Rachel (Scott) Pumphrey of Greensprings, Kendra Ridenour of Florida, and Tina Ridenour of Colorado; son, Josh Greenawald of Sandusky; nine beloved grandchildren, Elijah, Ethan, Elysia, Lydia, Charlie, Jennie, Kaja, Malenka and Ryker. He is also survived by his sisters, Joetta (Greg) Erney of Sandusky and Lydia Neal of Sandusky; brother, Shane (Candace) Neal of Bellevue; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

In addition to his parents, Bart is preceded in death by two daughters, Jennifer and Elaina; and his nephew, Christopher Young.

Fred will be remembered by many for his rough, gruff exterior. For many more of us, it will be his golden heart, the knife in our pockets, and his crude, sometimes distasteful sense of humor that we think of first. He never could back away from a challenge or a person in need; he would fix, provide, teach, friend, or fight absolutely anything for those he cared about. Words aren't enough to express the love that he gave, but for those of us who received it, we know he'd expect action. The best way for us to honor him is to give without expecting, appreciate the wonders of nature, never miss an opportunity to laugh and love each other with the fierceness he loved us. Fred, Uncle Bart, Grandpa, Pop-pop, Brother, Dad We love you!

Friends and neighbors are welcome to join family at 10 a.m. until time of Memorial Service at 11 a.m. Monday, August 11, 2025, at Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1607 E. Perkins Ave., Sandusky, with Pastor Wally Gilbert presiding.
