Gail Jones Obituary

Gail M. (Schaefer) Jones

Nov 10, 1947 - Dec 24, 2024

Grafton

Gail M. Jones, 77, of Grafton, passed away Christmas Eve, Dec. 24, 2024, at her home, surrounded by loved ones.

She was born Nov. 10, 1947, in Sandusky to the late Warren and Marilyn (Gast) Schaefer.

Gail was a 1966 graduate of Perkins High School and a 1969 graduate of Flower Hospital School of Nursing in Toledo. In total, she worked 43 years as a nurse. In 2012, she retired from Fisher-Titus Medical Center after 34 years in the obstetrics department. After retirement, Gail joined Friends of Metro Parks, Lorain Co. Gail was selected as Volunteer of the Year in 2019 and served several terms as a board member/trustee.

A lover of nature and avid landscape gardener, Gail transformed their home into a lovely garden oasis, adding shrubs, perennials, annuals, and trees; pruning, digging, planting, watering, mowing, and fighting a never-ending battle of weeding. She and Allan visited Hawaii every few years to take in all the botanic gardens and tropical plantings. She wanted only ocean-view rooms so she could watch her beloved whales breeching. She loved spending time with her family and above all else, adored her grandchildren and supported them in their varied interests. She eagerly attended their many school, sport, and 4-H events. She read to them, taught them silly songs on the piano, played baseball, let them jump on the bed, and was always prepared for a good gingerbread party. Gail built-in to her grandchildren, always celebrating their personal qualities and their many accomplishments. She was a great photographer and documented wonderful snapshots of grandkids, family events, pets, vacations, and gardens, leaving a legacy of photo albums behind.

She was a lifetime member of St. John's United Church of Christ in Milan.

She is survived by her husband of 38 years, Allan Jones; three children, Heather Weilnau, Heidi Weilnau and Heath (Carla) Weilnau; two stepchildren, Teresa Jones and Christopher (Renee) Jones; six grandchildren, Madeline Muterspaw, Cole Weilnau, Elena McCord, Maylie Weilnau, Ian McCord and Thea Weilnau; siblings, Brenda (Jim) Bahnsen and William (Janny) Schaefer; nieces and nephews, Warren Newton, Dan, Nathan, Adam, Jackson, Jordan, Zachary, Keli, Chelsey and Kyle; and many dear cousins and other family members.

Per Gail's request, cremation will take place. Family and friends may visit from 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 4, 2025, until memorial services begin at 11 a.m. at St. John's United Church of Christ, 2712 W. Mason Rd., Milan, OH 44846, with a reception at the church immediately following the service. A private ceremony will be in the spring, once the crocus bloom.

Memorial contributions in Gail's name may be made to Schoepfle Garden at Lorain County Metro Parks, 11106 Market St., Wakeman, OH 44889. Toft Funeral Home & Crematory, 2001 Columbus Ave., Sandusky, is handling arrangements.

To the family, my condolences to you and the entire family. Gail was a true friend in/from high school, and after, even though we both took different "paths" the years that followed.
I loved her smile and I can see her, even now, as she is now at rest with our Lord Jesus.
Love, prayers and blessings, Renee McKinney Cook PHS '66
