Gary "Jim" James Petersen Jr., 64, residing in Sandusky, passed away Tuesday, March 18, 2025, at Stein Hospice Care Center after a lengthy illness.

Jim was born June 18, 1960, in Sandusky to Gary J. and Dora J. (Kurtz) Petersen Sr.

Jim retired from Matthews Ford in Sandusky as manager of the used car reconditioning shop after 46 years of service. Jim was the organist and choir director at Christ Episcopal Church in Huron for the past 20 years. Jim was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Huron Eagles, American Guild of Organists and Organ Historical Society. He enjoyed boating, traveling to Key West, and Classic Cars. He had a true passion for Organ music, but most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his friends and family.

Jim is survived by his wife, Dedre (Andres) Petersen, whom he married April 16, 1983. He is also survived by his father, Gary J. (Rebecca) Petersen Sr.; his sister, JoAnne (Tom) Vollmar of Fremont; two brothers, Dennis (Jeri) Petersen of Sandusky and Brian Petersen of Sandusky; and several nieces, nephews, and many other relatives.

Jim is preceded in death by his mother, Dora J. (Kurtz) Petersen; and in-laws, Edward and Beverly Andres.

Friends may call from 4-7 p.m. Friday, March 21, 2025, at Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1607 E. Perkins Ave., Sandusky. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 22, 2025, at Christ Episcopal Church, 120 Ohio Street Huron, with Father Mike Floyd presiding. Inurnment will take place at a later date at Calvary Cemetery, Sandusky.
