Mr. George Evans Collins, aged 73, passed away on the evening of Monday, September 22, 2025, at McLeod Hospice House in Florence after a period of declining health. Born on November 10, 1951, in Mullins, he was the son of the late Robert Hugh “Bobby” Collins, Sr. and the late Magnolia Bullock Collins. Evans spent his life in the Gapway community, where he lived with his beloved wife of 53 years, Nancy Harrelson Collins.

Evans was a 1970 graduate of Mullins High School. After high school, he married Nancy, began working with Raytex, and started a family. Upon retiring from Raytex, he joined Anderson Brothers Bank, serving as a bank courier for over 20 years. Known for his quiet and calm demeanor, Evans was always ready to engage in meaningful conversations with those he met.

He was a devoted father and grandfather, survived by his wife Nancy; his daughter Summer Collins Lane and her husband Michael of North Myrtle Beach; and his grandchildren Zachary Evans Lane, Collins Haley Lane, and Carter Michael Lane. He is also survived by his sisters Alice Ruth Owens and her husband Jimmy of Mullins, and Beth Brown and her husband Danny of Chuckey, TN, along with several nieces and nephews. Evans was predeceased by his brother, Robert Hugh Collins, Jr.

Evans was a lifelong member of Gapway Baptist Church, where he nurtured his strong Christian faith. A private family memorial service will be held at Red Hill Memorial Gardens Mausoleum, with Cox-Collins Funeral Home assisting the family.

This news just breaks my heart. I had no idea Evans was sick. A genuine gentleman and friend that was always so kind to everyone!! What a loss for our community,but such a gain for heaven. I hope Ernie was one of his many special friends that welcomed him home !
