George Steager Obituary

George Timothy "Tim" Steager

Jan 5, 1932 - Sep 19, 2025

Vickery

George Timothy "Tim" Steager, 93, of Vickery, passed away peacefully at home Friday morning, September 19, 2025. He was born January 5, 1932, in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, to George and Emily Steager. He was a 1950 graduate of Townsend and often said he was part of the "nifty-fifty." On February 14, 1953, just days before entering the army, Tim married Barbara Ann Dick at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Clyde, and they were married for 62 years. He served his nation bravely during the Korean War as a Corporal in the 439th Engineering Battalion, earning him recognition as a U.S. Army veteran. He was a generous man, known for his kind heart and commitment to his family and community.

Tim was a lifelong farmer until his retirement in 1997, when his son John "Chip" took over the farm. He was a member of the Operating Engineers Union and was a heavy equipment operator at the stone quarry. Tim also worked at Eckrich, B&W Welding, and Ludlow Composites Corporation, all in Fremont.

He was a member and past master of Monticello Lodge No. 244, Clyde, Clyde VFW Post No. 3343, American Legion, and National Rifle Association. His faith played a significant role in his life as a charter member and past council president at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Vickery.

Tim is survived by his sons, Timothy (Deb) Steager of Burlington, Wisconsin, and John "Chip" (Lisa) Steager of Vickery; daughters, Brenda (Jerry) Stults of Fremont and Beth (Matt) Burkett of Clyde; grandchildren, Blair (Caitlin) Steager, Jared (Stacy Statema) Steager, Heather Steager, Amber Gahler, Jonathan Steager, Jacob Steager, and Nathan Burkett; great-grandchildren, Lily, Ayla, Cohen, Emeli, Dallas, Shelton, Colten, Annabelle and Wyatt; and sisters-in-law, Thelma Munson and Nancy (Dan) Pickens; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Emily Steager; wife, Barbara in 2015; twin brothers, Joseph and John "Jackie" Steager; and sister, Carolyn Ladd.

Visitation will be 2-7 p.m. Saturday, September 27, 2025, at Auxter-Recker Funeral Home, 218 South Main Street, Clyde, Ohio, 43410. Funeral Services will begin at 2 p.m. Sunday, September 28, 2025, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 1320 County Road 268, Vickery, Ohio, 43464, where additional visitation will be from 1:30-2 p.m. Burial will be at Greenlawn Memory Gardens, Clyde, with military honors conducted by Clyde VFW.

Memorial contribu-tions in honor of George may be made to Good Shepherd Lutheran Church or Matthias Academy, 12210 Antioch Rd, Trevor, WI 53179 (where George's granddaughter, Heather, attends school).
