Howard L. Barnum, 95, residing in Sandusky, passed away Thursday afternoon, Sept. 8, 2022, at Stein Hospice Care Center.

Howard was born Jan. 31, 1927, in Sandusky, to the late Hurless W. and Marietta L. (McCartney) Barnum.

Howard retired from Ford Motor Company in 1988. He was a veteran of U.S. Army who proudly served his country during World War II. Howard was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and American Legion Post #83. In his spare time, he enjoyed "cold" Toft's ice cream, bowling, building puzzles, taking car trips, going to the casino, sitting at the dock watching boats on the bay, and setting up his Christmas Village and train each year. He was a simple, loving man who thoroughly enjoyed his family, especially his grandchildren.

Howard is survived by his sons, Lester (Jackie) Barnum of Sparta, Georgia, and William (Kimberly) Barnum of Sandusky; 16 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

In addition to his parents, Howard was preceded in death by the love of his life and wife of 60 years, Mary L. (Petersen) Barnum on Nov. 3, 2005; son, Paul Barnum; daughter, Cheryl Cleavenger; and all of his 12 brothers and sisters.

Friends may call 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 27, 2022, until the time of Howard's funeral at 12 p.m. at Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1607 E. Perkins Ave., Sandusky. Burial will follow at Meadow Green Memorial Park, Huron.
