Jack Edward Lange, 79, of Huron, died Monday, March 24, 2025, surrounded by his family.

Jack was born January 20, 1946, in Sandusky. He attended Holy Angels and was a 1963 graduate of St. Mary's High School. Jack graduated from Bowling Green State University in 1967.

Upon graduation from college, Jack honorably served his country as a First Lieutenant in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He was an Army Ranger and a Green Beret in the Special Forces. He was awarded the Bronze Star Medal for valor and conduct above and beyond the call of duty.

After his distinguished military service, Jack worked in various roles for the United States Postal Service from 1973 until 2001, when he retired as postmaster of Sandusky.

Jack and his wife Sue traveled the country, visiting many national parks. They enjoyed biking, hiking, walking the beach and boating. Jack spent many mornings at the Donut Shop in Huron, enjoying coffee, engaging in conversation, and developing lasting friendships. He demonstrated his commitment to community service through involvement in Kiwanis and Rotary Clubs. He was especially passionate about building and remodeling homes. He loved his family and friends and enjoyed gatherings in California and Ohio. Jack cherished every moment spent with his grandchildren.

Jack is survived by his wife of nearly 25 years, Susan (Bundschuh) Lange; children, Ali (Scott) Lange James, Kelly Zolman, Molly (Brad) Sherman, of Powell, and Ted (Jessica) Melching; siblings, Linda (James) Zimsky, of San Diego, California, Paula (Lawson) Hubbard, of Belvedere, California and Peter (Jackie) Lange of Albany, Georgia; grandchildren, Rocco, Antonia, Lauren, Jackson, Conor, Ellis, Tori, Ashtyn, Jeffery and Ethan; nephews and niece, Matthew, Andrew, Bret, Ian, Rory, Conor, Pete and Katherine; the mother of his daughters, Debbie Lange; and many cousins and close friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Peter M. Lange and Evelyn Keegan Lange; and an infant son.

Friends may call from 4-7 p.m. Monday, March 31, 2025, at Groff Funeral Home, 1607 East Perkins Avenue, Sandusky. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 1, 2025, at St. Peter Catholic Church, 430 Main Street, Huron. Private family inurnment will be at Calvary Cemetery, Sandusky.

Jack's family would like to thank the staff and the other residents and families of Admiral's Pointe Nursing & Rehabilitation as well as Southern Care Hospice Services for playing an important role in Jack's life over the last several months.
