James Arthur Donich, 84, residing in Oak Harbor, passed away Tuesday morning, Oct. 1, 2024, at Firelands Regional Medical Center.

Jim was born March 10, 1940, in Sandusky, to John and Helen (Antalik) Donich.

Jim was a veteran of the Coast Guard who proudly served his country from Jan. 6, 1959 to Jan.5, 1965. He was employed with Ohio State Parks for over 36 years until retiring in 1991, and Kelley's Island Ferry Company for 13 years. Jim was a member of AMVETS Post 17, American Legion Post 83, Park Managers of Natural Resources Alumni and a charter member of Oak Harbor Fraternal Order of Police. In his spare time, he enjoyed boating, fishing and hunting.

Jim is survived by his wife, Elaine (Baer) Donich, whom he married April 15,1960. He is also survived by his son, Daniel C. (Jenny) Donich of Lakeside Marblehead; his daughter, Rhonda (Samer) Alkharrat of California; five grandchildren; sister, Patricia Ward of Sandusky; a brother, Richard (Linda) Donich of Marblehead.

Jim is preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Jean Kehwecker.

Friends may call 2-5 p.m.Sunday, Oc. 6, 2024, at Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1607 E. Perkins Ave., Sandusky. Prayers will be 9:30 a.m. Monday, Oct. 7, 2024, at the funeral home, followed by Mass at 10 a.m. at Holy Angels Catholic Church, Sandusky. Entombment will follow at Meadow Green Memorial Park, Huron.
