Sandusky
James A. Scalia Jr., 79, residing in Sandusky, passed away early Monday morning, August 18, 2025, at Stein Hospice Care Center.
James was born January 13, 1946, in Sandusky, to James A. and Inez B. (Riccardi) Scally Sr.
James graduated from Sandusky High School in 1964 and went on to retire from General Motors in 2007 after 30 years of dedicated service. He was a proud member of St. Stephen United Church of Christ, American Legion Post 83, AMVETS Post 17, and VFW Post 2529. James found joy in cheering for his beloved Ohio State Buckeyes and Cleveland Guardians, working on crossword puzzles, and most of all, spending time with his family and friends.
James is survived by his son, James (Deborah) Scally of Huron; daughter, Angela (Christopher) Walton of Sandusky; daughter, Teresa Scally of Sandusky; grandchildren, Allison (Cooter), Thane (Bri), Jax, Luke, Marco, Alice and Jude; great-grandchildren, Hunter, Scarlet, James, Charleigh and Lawson; brother, Steve Scally; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
In addition to his parents, James is preceded in death by his first wife, Joanne M. (LaGrass) Scally; grandson, Jacoby Walton; and two brothers, Robert and Gary Scally.
Friends may call from 4-7 p.m. Monday August 25, 2025, at Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1607 E. Perkins Ave., Sandusky. Funeral services will begin at 11 a.m. Tuesday, August 26, 2025, at St. Stephen United Church of Christ, 905 E. Perkins Ave. Sandusky, with Pastor Jerald Fenske presiding. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery at a later date.
To honor James' lifelong love for Ohio State, the family invites all who attend visiting hours to wear their favorite Buckeye gear or team colors in celebration of his spirit and passion.
