James Alfred Staley, 76, residing in Sandusky, passed away Monday, Oct. 28, 2024, at Ohio Veteran's Home after a lengthy illness.
He was born June 19, 1948, in Sandusky, to George and Evelyn (Uhl) Staley.
James graduated from Perkins High School in 1966 and earned his Associates Degree in Agricultural Engineering from Michigan State University. He was a veteran of U.S. Air Force and Ohio Air National Guard 200th Squadron who proudly served his country during the Korean War and Vietnam War. He was employed as a mechanic for several years. James was a member of American Legion Post #83 in Sandusky and Erie County Senior Center. In his spare time, he enjoyed coin collecting.
James is survived by his wife, Dianne Schafer Staley, whom he married Aug. 11, 1973; sons, Michael J (Amy) Staley of Olmstead Falls and Steven (Melissa) Staley of Huron; sisters, Carol Stockley of Sandusky, Lois (James) Steckel of Westlake, and Susan (Thomas) Bogner of Bellevue, brother, Thomas Staley of Braunfels, Texas; grandchildren, Logan, Preston, and Dylan Staley, Brianna Lewis-Griffaw, Kaden, and Caleb Staley; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Judy Lilje.
Visitation for friends will be 4-7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 31, 2024, at Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1607 E. Perkins Ave., Sandusky. James' funeral will be 12 p.m. Friday, Nov. 1, 2024, at the funeral home with Father Doug Taylor presiding. Burial will follow at Ohio Veterans Home Cemetery.
