James Turner Obituary

James Arthur Turner

Oct 12, 1947 - Aug 31, 2022

Sandusky

James Arthur Turner, of Sandusky, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, Aug. 31, 2022. He was born Oct. 12, 1947, to Rosco Turner and Louise Turner Dixon. Johnny Dixon Jr. of Dixon Mills, Alabama, also assisted in his upbringing when Johnny and Louise married, along with his grandmother, Mattie Turner. Growing up, James and his sister, Gladys, were extremely close and continued to share an unbreakable bond as adults.

At an early age, James joined Zion Chapel A.M.E. Church in Millry, Alabama. He attended school in Choctaw County and graduated from Shady Grove High School in Silas, Alabama. After high school, James served in U.S. Army as a heavy machine operator for several years before being honorably discharged. He was a proud veteran. James later moved to Sandusky and married Tonya Marie Henson Mickles. They had one daughter, Tyra Turner, jointly raised Tyrell Jones, and lovingly parented one granddaughter, Dynasty Amore Davis.

James leaves a host of loved ones behind to cherish his memory. He will be greatly missed.
