Jane Ellen Laning Meyer, 93, of Sandusky, passed away Friday, Oct. 21, 2022, at Parkvue Healthcare Center after a lengthy illness.

She was born Sept. 1, 1929, in Findlay, to Paul F. and Claire C. (McCormick) Laning. A 1947 graduate of Sandusky High School, she also graduated from Baldwin Wallace University in 1951 with a Bachelor's of Science in Education. She was an elementary teacher for Sandusky City Schools for 27 years, retiring in 1984.

Jane was a member of St. Stephen's UCC, Sandusky, where she was a member of the choir for many years. She was a former member of Sandusky College Women's Club, Erie County and Retired Teachers Associations, and Erie County Historical Society. She was a member of Alpha Xi Delta Sorority while at Baldwin Wallace. She also volunteered at Firelands Regional Medical Center for 11 years.

She enjoyed reading and traveling in the United States, especially out west, with her husband, Harry.

Jane is survived by her daughter, Melinda (James) Behrendsen of Sandusky; son, David F. Meyer of Denver, Colorado; granddaughters, Emily (John) Mann of Sandusky, and Julie (Zachary) Boehnlein of Medina; several nieces and nephews; and sister-in-law, Sharon M. Showalter of Temperance, Michigan.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, Harry W. Meyer, in 1997.

There will be no visitation with private family burial at Meadow Green Memorial Park, Huron. Memorial contributions may be given to St. Stephen's UCC. Toft Funeral Home & Crematory, Sandusky Chapel, is handling arrangements. Condolences may be shared by visiting toftfuneralhome.com.
