Joan D. (Bretz) Sartor, 82, of Sandusky, passed away peacefully early Tuesday afternoon, May 16, 2023, at Parkvue Health Care Center, Sandusky, after an illness.
Joan was born Feb. 25, 1941, in Sandusky, the daughter of Frederick and Mildred (Bechstein) Bretz. She was a 1959 graduate of St. Mary's High School. Joan worked at the "Fashion Bug" as a sales assistant for nearly 20 years before retiring. She will be remembered by her family for how she enjoyed gardening, but especially for how she loved her crafts and the holiday seasons, especially Christmas.
Joan was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church.
She is survived by her family, Gerald R. "JR" Sartor of Sandusky, Jacquelyn (Carlos) Reyes of Maumee, and Lorenz (Lynnette) Sartor of Wooster; grandson, Matthias (Katlin Zarella) Sartor; three great-grandchildren, the twins, Aiden and Azaria, and Jaina Sartor; and nieces and nephews.
Joan was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Marilyn J. Snyder and Bernice Cecil; and two brothers, Richard and Donald Bretz.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Tuesday, May 23, 2023, at David F. Koch Funeral and Cremation Services, 520 Columbus Avenue, Sandusky. Prayers will be recited at 9:40 a.m. Wednesday, May 24, 2023, at the funeral home followed by Mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, 510 Columbus Avenue, Sandusky. Fr. Monte Hoyles will officiate. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery, Sandusky.
The family suggests that memorial contributions may be made in her memory to American Diabetes Association, Cleveland/Ohio Lakefront Office, 4500 Rockside Road, Suite 440, Independence, Ohio, 44131.
