Cindy J. Dougan
January 24, 2026
My name is Cindy Dougan (DeLizio). For many years Aunt Sharon and Uncle Jack were my second parents until the arrival of Phil and Kurt. Holidays were always together; loved Christmas especially (Auntie Mae would come too). Uncle Jack bought me my first set of skis and taught me to use them on the hills of Morgan County. As l grew older, I would spend summers with them and eventually move to Sandusky. Uncle Jack taught me how to sail and maintenance boats, open my home to the world, refurbish and build almost anything, fish for perch and walleye and provided me with many other new experiences and adventures. He taught me how to think outside the box right down to choosing any other flavor at Tofts other than chocolate. When my
cousins became part of the crew I then became known as the "Nanny
in Tow." My favorite experiences were crewing the Bowl Races, heading
to Put-In-Bay (rafting off or hitching a buoy) and then sailing to Peele Island for what Uncle Jack would say was rest and relaxation...l carved Cal-0-Mine and Fizgig many times in the Peele dock...not allot to do. At Peele I learned Uncle Jack's most valuable way to discipline me when (not to sail beyond the break wall and don't let your leg hang over the bow while turning the boat in dock (SILENCE)). My Aunt and Uncle taught me how to cook new foods, crafts and gardening. As we all grew older and were going in all different ways; I moved from Sandusky, but we still remained close even if he was on the other side of the world.
Amazingly my vacation condo was near theirs in FL. I had just talked to Uncle Jack and was planning a 1 on 1 week in Florida in April to really reconnect. As the saying goes "Don't Wait." Thank you Uncle Jack for encouraging me to spread my wings. Your advice has always been in the back of my mind during all my approaches to life. Blessings for "Great Memories" to Kurt and Phil and the entire Doller family! Uncle Jack and Aunt Sharon I miss you both!
