John Carl Kautz, 77, of Huron, passed away Thursday, Dec. 21, 2023, at home after a lengthy illness.

John was born Dec. 12, 1946, in Bellevue, to Donald Kautz Sr. and Marjorie (Smith) Kautz.

John graduated from Sandusky High School in 1963. He was a veteran of U.S. Army who proudly served his country from Jan. 25, 1966 to Jan. 24, 1968. John retired from Routh Packing after a successful career. John enjoyed woodworking and fishing, but most of all spending time with his friends and family.

John is survived by his wife, Cheryl (Kalies) Kautz; son, John (Dawn) Kautz Jr. of Charlotte, North Carolina; daughter, Jennifer Hartlage of Sandusky; six grandchildren, Jacob Kautz, Courtney Hartlage, Austin Kautz, Ryan Hartlage, Ty Compton, and Lucas Compton; and sisters, Peggy (Tom) Armstrong of Perrysburg and Darlene (Fred) Traband of Ft. Myers, Florida.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Donald Kautz Jr.; and sister, Patricia Kautz.

John's services will be private for family and conducted at a later date.

Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory, Sandusky, will be assisting family with services.
