John Mardosa Obituary

John A. Mardosa

May 23, 1941 - Jan 30, 2026

Perrysburg

John A Mardosa, 84, passed away Friday, January 30, 2026, after a lengthy illness. A former resident of Catawba Island, John had made his home in Perrysburg for the last five years.

John was born to Edward and Catherine (McBean) Mardosa in Augusta, Maine, May 23, 1941. He attended Lewiston High School in Lewiston, Maine, and was a member of the State Championship football team in 1957, as his father had been in 1927. John then attended General Motors Institute in Flint, Michigan, earning his degree in mechanical engineering in 1964. In 1967, John married Nancy Cram, and they and their children were a part of the large influx of young families from New England who were brought out to Ohio by General Motors to populate the New Departure Hyatt Bearings plant in Sandusky. John remained with the company from his college years until his retirement.

John was always a good friend to others and was frequently referred to as one of the most likable men you would ever know. He was exceedingly proud of his Lithuanian and Irish ancestry and always chuckled when his older brother would describe them to others as "Half Lit Irishmen". He was a fiercely loyal Boston Red Sox fan for his entire life and a devoted Ohio State Buckeyes fan from the first day his daughter set foot on the campus. He was a long-time member of Port Clinton Elks Lodge and bowled in their Monday night league for many years. John was an avid card player who enjoyed poker with the guys and couples' bridge with his wife and their friends. John and his family delighted in traveling, and he was fortunate to visit the Caribbean, Mexico, Japan, Hawaii, Ireland, England, and France over the years.

John and Nancy were married for 43 years prior to her death in 2010. He was also predeceased by his parents; his sons, Michael Mardosa and Marc Mardosa; and his brother, Edward P. Mardosa Jr.

Forever cherishing his memory are his daughter, Debbie (Joe) Drago of Perrysburg; grandchildren, Marisa (Jacob) Cromer and Dominic Drago of Perrysburg; his brother, Michael (Carolyn) Mardosa of Orrington, Maine; sister-in-law, Bonnie Mardosa of Jay, Maine; sister-in-law, Claire Cram of Richmond, Rhode Island; sister-in-law, Marion Cram of Mashpee, Massachusetts; brother and sister-in-law, Brian Cram and Nancy Kelley-Cram of Littleton, North Carolina; brother and sister-in-law, Gary and Sharon Cram of Morrisville, North Carolina; and many beloved nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 21, 2026, at Neidecker, Crosser & Priesman Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 1124 Fulton St., Port Clinton. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until time of service Saturday, March 21, 2026. Interment will follow at Catawba Island Cemetery.

If you are so moved, John would have been honored if you considered a donation to Catawba Island Volunteer Fire Department, 4730 E. Cemetery Rd. Port Clinton, OH 43452 or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105, www.stjude.org in his memory.
