John VanHall Obituary

John E. VanHall

May 29, 1951 - Jan 4, 2023

Toledo, Ohio

John E. VanHall, 71, was born May 29, 1951, in Buffalo, New York. After battling several health issues over the past few years, John transitioned to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2023.

As a devoted servant of God with unwavering faith, John was known by all as a man who loved ALL people. John TRULY never met a stranger! He had a big heart and if you ever met him, you knew it! He never missed an opportunity to pray for you and to let you know that Jesus Christ loves you! If you ever called John, he would answer the phone with a "Hello, Jesus Christ loves you!!"

John met the love of his life, Eula Francis, at Sandusky's GM-Delphi Chasiss in 1993 as a result of him transferring from the Georgia GM plant. They were wed May 23, 1994, after just seven months of dating. John would often say the scripture Proverbs 18:22 (He who finds a wife finds a good thing and obtains favor from the LORD) rang true for him.

After they both retired from GM, they moved to Toledo, Ohio, in 2002. John led and served on Encouragers Ministry at Cornerstone Church in Maumee for over 15 years. In 2020, John became a faithful and devoted member of Faith 4 Life Church, but due to his health issues he could not physically attend many services.

John loved motorcycles, especially Harleys, owning eight in his lifetime. He enjoyed hunting and all sports. His favorite teams to watch and follow were The Ohio State Buckeyes, Atlanta Braves, and his beloved Buffalo Bills. Go Bills as he would often say!! He would play cards weekly with his buddies and was a member of Adams Conservation Club, where he was the Range Officer for the shooting range for 12 years. Watching old westerns was another great pastime of Johns. He loved to sing the theme song to Rawhide at family gatherings which always brought a lot of laughter!! "Rollin, Rollin, Rollin, Keep them Doggies Rollin, Rawhide!"

Family gathering time was very important to John. And you didn't have to be a blood relative to be considered "family." He loved fellowship with the generations. From sharing life stories to playing board games, family day always equalled a great day. The dice game "Greedy" was his all time favorite family game to play.

In addition to his wife of 28 years, Eula VanHall, John is survived by Tondra K. Frisby, whom he affectionately referred to as his bonus daughter T.K.; stepson, Anthony Lane; grandsons, Jermel Lane, Isaac (Cristina) Hurst, Larry D. Keys Jr., and Antron Lane; great-grandchildren, Jelisa Lane, Jace Lane, Cherish Lane, Josiah Lane, Delvontae Wilkins, Athena Lane, and Ezra Lane; great-godson, Ka'Mani Ridgeway; brother, Ronald VanHall; nephews, Gerri (Annette) Petrina, Greg (Almelda) Petrina, Joey Sorrento, and Bobby Sorrento; special cousins, Brian (Lisa) Copeland; special friends, Gail and Annie Davis, Larry and Fran Vorderburg, and Clarence Hill; and a host of other relatives and friends.

John was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Edwina VanHall; sister, Sandra Lee Sorrento; and brother, Bobby VanHall.

Visitation will be 10-11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 12, 2023, at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4752 Heatherdowns Blvd., Toledo, Ohio, 43614. John's funeral will be 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

I sure do remember the first day I met him, he let me know he was not saved so we talked for a long time. Then he stood up and said"I'm ready to be saved! What a precious day that was! I loved watching him grow in his Faith. John was a great brother. When he asked me to be best man at his wedding, i was very honored to be a part of that awesome Event and he and eula.

John was a great example of a good man. Praying for all the family and we send you all out Love

When I stand in the checkout line at the store and see tic tacs in the candy racks I smile, because they always remind me of John, he always had them on him and shared with whoever wanted or maybe NEEDED one! Missing you my friend!
