John Paul Veith, 88, residing in Sandusky, passed away Friday evening, May 2, 2025, at Firelands Regional Medical Center after a brief illness.

John was born August 2, 1936, in Sandusky to the late Earl and Edith (Hummel) Veith.

John graduated from St. Mary's High School in 1954 and attended college at Duquesne University and University of Toledo. He was a veteran of the Ohio Army National Guard. John retired from Sandusky International in Accounting after 33 years of service. He was the assistant volunteer and head golf coach for 34 years at SMCC, and in retirement, he worked with his son selling advertisements. John was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, 70 year member of Knights of Columbus No. 546, and a SMCC Hall of Fame Inductee in 2019. He was an all-around sports enthusiast, especially golf; he enjoyed playing cards, but most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family, watching their children's and grandchildren's sporting events. He loved traveling with Kay and spending winters in Florida with friends.

John is survived by his wife, Beverly "Kay" (Kiser) Veith, whom he married September 6, 1958. He is also survived by his daughter, Deb (Jeff) Claar of Sandusky; two sons, John Jeffrey (Theresa) Veith of Plain City and David "Turk" Veith of Columbus; five grandchildren, Jared (Renee), Jennifer (Chris), Joshua, Mackenzie (Grant) and Shane; eleven great-grandchildren, Frank, Henry, Everly, Jaclyn, Molly, Kathryn, Larkyn, Camila, Skylar, Ella and Sadie; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

In addition to his parents, John is preceded in death by a sister, Barbara Rose Schott.

Friends may call from 4-7 p.m. Wednesday, May 7, 2025, at Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1607 E. Perkins Ave., Sandusky. Prayers will be recited at the funeral home at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, May 8, 2025, followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 429 Central Ave. Sandusky, with Father Doug Garand presiding. Private family inurnment will take place at Calvary Cemetery, Sandusky.

Kay, I am so sorry for your loss. As I'm sure you remember, John and I went though 12 years together at St. Mary's School. John and I played football side by side under coach Zieroff. May he rest in peace. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. I tried hard to get to Sandusky to pay my respects, but could not make it.
