John West, 86, residing in Sandusky, passed away Saturday, May 20, 2023, at home.

John was born Aug. 7, 1936, in Coshocton, to Lewis and Ruth (Decker) West.

John was a graduate of Kent State University. He was employed with Chrysler Corporation and retired from National Latex in Ashland as a Chemist after many years of service.

John was a member of St. Stephens United Church of Christ where he served on church council for six years and was a church Deacon and member of the Altar Guild. He enjoyed gardening, repairing things around the house and church, his many cats, and spending time with his family and friends, especially his grandchildren.

John is survived by his wife, Ruth Riley West, whom he married Sept. 1, 1962; daughter, Diane (Walt) Foreman of Monroeville; son, Jeffrey (Stella) West of Eaton; brother, Lewis West Jr. of California; two grandchildren, Tyler and Erin Foreman; and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

John was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Jane Baker.

Visitation will be 2 p.m. Thursday, May 25, 2023, until the time of John's memorial service at 3 p.m. at St. Stephens United Church of Christ, 905 East Perkins Avenue, Sandusky, with the Rev. Jerald Fenske presiding. Burial will be at Meadow Green Memorial Park at a later date.
