Terry Travis Seagert

Sandusky
Terry Travis Seagert, 80, of Sandusky, passed away Friday, April 3, 2026.
Much to the surprise of his family and friends, he died peacefully at home instead of one of the many adventurous ways he had anticipated going. Being mauled by a bear while photographing a bear cub or trampled by a moose in Alaska seemed much more likely to be his fate.
He was born October 25, 1945, in Toledo, to Norman and Loyce Seagert. He was raised in Toledo and moved to Athens to attend Ohio University. After graduating with a degree in fine arts focusing on photography, he made his home in Sandusky and had a career that ranged from raising horses to owning a Hickory Farms location, followed by a sandwich restaurant named TJ's. He was an art teacher at Berlin Heights Middle School and owned PeopleVision, an IT consulting company.
In 1973, he married Kim Buehrle and they welcomed a son, TJ Seagert, in 1987. He enjoyed his time on the golf course with his son and through volunteer work as an official for local and international junior golf tournaments. He loved dogs and was an incredibly thoughtful gift giver. A late-in-life traveler, he logged tens of thousands of miles on the road and captured his adventures by taking endless photographs. Most notable trips were in 2022 when he towed his camper from Ohio to Alaska and back for a two-month trek exploring nature and capturing it through his lens. In 2025 he took his camper to Bar Harbor, Maine to see the coast and Acadia National Park followed by Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island.
He will be remembered for his sense of humor and the way he showed love by knowing just which buttons to push. He loved a routine and a cold, flat beer. Saturdays were for a homemade Toft's ice cream banana split sundae followed by Cameo's Pizza.
He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, TJ and Brittany Seagert.
He is preceded in death by his parents and his beloved dogs, Luckey, Simba, Oliver, and Apollo.
A celebration of life will be at a later date. Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory is assisting family with arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, please feel free to make a donation to National Bernese Mountain Dog Rescue Network or your local Humane Society in his honor.
