Pastor Johnnie W. Cross, Jr., 92, of Sandusky, received his promotion from earth to eternity at Firelands Regional Medical Center Friday, January 3, 2025, following a lengthy illness. He was born in Brunswick, Georgia April 4, 1932, to Johnnie Sr. and Mary Cross.
Pastor Johnnie W. Cross, Jr., worked for New Departure in Sandusky until retiring in 1986. He formerly worked for the government at Erie Deport.
Pastor Johnnie W. Cross, Jr., was a faithful servant of the Lord and pastored for 47 years. He started pastoring at Christ Temple Church in Fostoria in 1977 until he became the pastor at Assembly of Jesus Christ Church in Sandusky in 1982, the same church where he received salvation at the age of 19. He was a faithful member of Pentecostal Assemblies of the World (PAW), where he served as Sergeant of Arms in the Ohio District Council of PAW for 20 years.
Pastor Johnnie W. Cross, Jr. enjoyed preaching the gospel, singing, going fishing at Lake Erie, and spending time with his family.
Pastor Johnnie W. Cross, Jr. leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 71 years, Janet Y. Cross (nee Fitpatrick); his daughter, Pastor Marguerite A. Irby; and his son, Johnnie "Bengie" III; 22 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; a brother, Joseph Cross; and a sister, Mary Cross; and host of other loving relatives, his church family, and friends.
Pastor Johnnie W. Cross, Jr. was preceded in death by his parents, Johnnie Sr. and Mary Cross; two daughters, Crystal Y. Cross and Constance M. Caston.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Friday, January 10, 2025, at Assembly of Jesus Christ Church, 3510 Beatty Avenue, Sandusky, where the Homegoing & Celebration Service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, January 11, 2025. Pastor Sian Johnson of Word & Worship, Sheffield, will officiate the service and Bishop Steve E. Robinson of City of Deliverance International, Lorain, Eulogist. Burial will be at Oakland Cemetery, Sandusky.

Elder Cross had been our Pastor/ Elder for a very long time. All of the lessons he taught through the Word of God I still remember. He was a wonderful Pastor/Elder and he will be truly missed. Our sincere condolences to the family,

My deepest sympathy and condolences to my cousin Johnny´s wife, children, grandchildren and the host of all those who loved and adored this wonderful man of God. Elder Johnny Cross was the matriarch of the Watkins Family. He was a wonderful husband, father and the perfect example for our family to follow. He´s going to be missed, but if we follow his example we will surely see him again on that great getting up morning, bye and bye.. We love you dear heart, but God loves him best.
