Jonnie Mae Shafer, 69, residing in Sandusky, passed away Sunday evening, December 29, 2024, at Firelands Regional Medical Center after a lengthy illness.

Jonnie was born October 10, 1955, in Sandusky to the late Vernon Mitchell and Helen (Aldridge) Wills.

Jonnie was employed as a customer service representative at Hearst Corporation for many years. She enjoyed reading, traveling, she was a master gardener, loved music and spending time with her family.

Jonnie is survived by her husband of 50 years, Robert Shafer, whom she married June 24, 1974. She is also survived by her children, Robert (Mindy) Shafer Jr., Kathleen Shafer, Amanda Shafer, and Shawn Shafer; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; her siblings, Vernon (Karen) Mitchell, Cindy (Jim) Duncan, Patricia Wood, Sara (Ron) Berry, Leslie Massingill, Claudia (Pete) Berry Fantozzi, Billy Mitchell and Anna (Jason) Wood; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

In addition to her parents, Jonnie is preceded in death by her brother, Ray Russell.

Friends may call from 10 a.m. until the time of service at 12 p.m. Tuesday, January 7, 2025, at Faith Memorial Church, 1320 Strub Road, Sandusky, Ohio, with Pastor William Wiswell presiding. Burial will follow at Milan Cemetery, Milan.
