Judith Bechtel Obituary

Judith D. Bechtel

Jan 23, 1941 - Mar 20, 2025

Sandusky

Judith Dale (Leibacher) Bechtel, 84, residing in Sandusky, passed away Thursday, March 20, 2025, at Parkvue Health Care Center due to an extended illness.

Judith was born January 23, 1941, in Sandusky, to the late William and Irene (Behrendsen) Leibacher just before her twin brother, Gerald.

Judy was a lifelong resident of Sandusky and a graduate of Sandusky High School. Judy was a hard worker, devoted wife, stepmother, aunt, and friend to many.

Judy worked for the City of Sandusky in several capacities, retiring after many years as a dispatcher for Sandusky Police Department. It was in this capacity that she met and subsequently married Richard Bechtel. They enjoyed almost 52 years of marriage together.

Judy and Richard built their dream home on the west end in 1977 and she lived there until her health recently declined. Judy hosted family meals, holiday gatherings and special birthdays for her grandchildren. Her spaghetti sauce was exceptional and her meringue cream pies unbeatable.

Judy enjoyed reading, cooking, baking, family gatherings, caring for her dogs and time spent with Richard. They enjoyed vacationing together.

She is survived by her husband Richard; two sons, Steven (Molly) Bechtel and Scott (Maria) Bechtel; grandchildren, Ashley (JR) Ramsey, Sarah (Sam) Lofton, Kevin (Megan) Bechtel, Joshua (Lindsay) Bechtel, Andrew Bechtel, Jacob Bechtel, Sarah Snyder, Samantha Snyder; 10 great- grandchildren; twin brother, Gerald (Rebecca) Leibacher; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Judy was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, James Leibacher; and sister, Elaine Maillard.

The family expresses its gratitude to the staff at Stein Hospice, Parkvue Community and Cyndi and her team for their kind, exceptional care.

Friends may call from 10 a.m. until time of service at 11:30 a.m. Monday, March 24, 2025, at Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1607 E. Perkins Ave., Sandusky. Burial will follow in Oakland Cemetery, Sandusky.
