Judith Kromer-Cattano Obituary

Judith Ann Kromer-Cattano

Jun 11, 1941 - Aug 30, 2024

Sandusky

Judith Ann "Judy" Kromer-Cattano, 83, residing in Sandusky, passed away Friday, Aug. 30, 2024, at Firelands Regional Medical Center after a brief illness.

She was born June 11, 1941, in Fremont, to Milton M. and Imelda M. (Mosser) Kreilick.

Judy was a 1959 graduate of St. Mary High School in Sandusky. A devoted member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Judy was deeply involved in the church community through her participation in the choir, funeral luncheons, church cleaning, communion distribution, and bringing Communion to the homebound. She also played a key role in Capital Campaigns and the RCIA program. Outside the church, Judy was active with Lions Club, volunteered for Habitat for Humanity, and worked in the cafeteria at St. Mary's Schools for over 15 years.

Judy was known for her vibrant social life, always on the go with friends and family. She was an avid scrap booker and quilter, loved reading, puzzles, golf, gardening, and bird watching, and was renowned for her bread baking. Her greatest joy came from being a mother and later a grandmother and mother-in-law, passionately supporting her grandchildren in their sporting events and other activities, traveling to Texas and Cincinnati to spend time with them, and serving as the world's greatest babysitter. As her grandchildren grew, she developed a special and unique relationship with each and every one of them. Judy also took great pleasure in cutting hair, likely giving more haircuts than most beauticians in the community. Her family and friends were her world and she will be remembered for her boundless energy, generosity, and unwavering love.

Judy is survived by five children, Chris (Anita) Kromer of Sandusky, Maria (Derek) Clark of Dallas, Texas, Nicolette (Chris) Near of Sandusky, Joseph (Shannon) Kromer of Cincinnati, and Eric (Kathrine) Kromer of Sandusky; 15 grandchildren, Courtney, Jude (Katie), and Bryan Kromer, Devin and Corrie Clark, Katelyn, Jacob, Kiersten, and Karina Near, Joey, Maddy, and Megan Kromer, and Sydney, Cole, and Brittan Kromer; and numerous other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; beloved first husband, Joseph G. Kromer in 1988; and second husband, Vincent Cattano in 2003.

Visitation for friends will be 4-7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 5, 2024, at Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1607 E. Perkins Ave., Sandusky. A prayer service will be 9:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 6, 2024, at the funeral home followed by Mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 429 Central Ave., Sandusky, with Fr. Monte Hoyles presiding. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Sandusky.

Those wishing to contribute to Judy's memory may do so to Stein Hospice Services, 1200 Sycamore Line, Sandusky, Ohio, 44870, or St. Mary's Catholic Church, 429 Central Ave., Sandusky, Ohio, 44870.
