Karen Vaughan Obituary

Karen Jane Vaughan

Mar 14, 1947 - Nov 2, 2023

Sandusky

Karen Jane Vaughan, 76, of Sandusky, passed away at 4 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 2, 2023, at Stein Hospice Care Center, Sandusky.

Karen was born March 14, 1947, to Lewis and Maryjane Eckert.

Karen attended Perkins High School. After high school, she worked at Sandusky Fish House as a car hop and at Berardi's Busy Bee Restaurant Sandusky as food prep. Al Berardi treated her like a daughter and they stayed life-long friends. In 1970, Karen had the opportunity to go to work at Scott Paper Co. in Sandusky. That is where she met her husband, Bob Vaughan, and they married July 9, 1976. When Scott Paper closed in 1981, Bob and Karen went to Dover, Delaware, to help start the new Scott Paper Baby Fresh plant. They stayed in Dover for one year before returning to Sandusky.

When Al Berardi started the new restaurant in Huron at the old Frostop, he asked Karen to come in and help out getting the restaurant started. She helped there until Nov., 1985, when she got hired at Van Dresser Corp., Norwalk. Karen worked at the Norwalk and Sandusky Van Dresser plants as a parts assembler and thermal former machine operator. She left Van Dresser and went to work for O'Sullivan Co. in Huron as an injection molding machine operator and auto parts assembler. Karen worked at that location until 2012 when she retired.

She loved family and friends. You could always find her cleaning the house or working in the yard. She loved lying by the pool or on the deck of the boat. She loved to shop and was always at a store looking to see what they had - she tried to go to every store while in Tucson one winter. On nice days, Karen would love to just go out for a ride with the top down and might end up in Cleveland or Toledo. She loved stopping at Tony Packo's. When traveling, she loved to look at the sites. While traveling through Texas, she once asked where do the cows sleep at night?

Karen is survived by her husband, Bob; brothers, Bob, Larry, Gordon, and William Eckert; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Tom Eckert; and sisters, Sandra Eckert, Marietta Eckert Mazza, and Kathy Eckert Johnson.

Cremation will take place.

Visitation for friends will be 10 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 9, 2023, until the time of Karen's memorial service at 11 a.m. at Toft Funeral Home & Crematory, 2001 Columbus Ave., Sandusky. The Rev. Ken Hiser will preside.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Stein Hospice, 1200 Sycamore Line, Sandusky, Ohio, 44870.
