Kay Wensink Obituary

Kay L. Wensink

Oct 4, 1947 - Jul 20, 2024

Sandusky

Kay Lynn (Felkey) Wensink, 76, of Monroeville, passed away peacefully Friday, July 19, 2024, with her husband and sons by her side.

She was born Oct. 4, 1947, in Lancaster, to Garnet and Charles Felkey.

Kay grew up in Circleville. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Home Economics from The Ohio State University, where she was a proud member of the Alpha Xi Delta sorority and the Phi Upsilon Omicron and Omicron Nu honorary sororities.

She married the love of her life, Richard J. Wensink on Aug. 2, 1969. They were introduced by Rick's fraternity and actual brother, Bob, and Kay's sorority sister, Ellen (Bob's future wife).

Kay was a devout Methodist, most recently of Edison United Methodist Church. She was a long-time member of American Association of University Women, Erie County Extension Homemakers, Farm Bureau (where many butter mints were served), Mary Fellowship, and she was an adviser for Oxford Hustlers 4-H Club. Kay volunteered her time, talent, and treasure with Age Exchange tutoring students, Care and Share, and wherever there was a need in the community.

Kay enjoyed traveling and photography. Kay, Rick, and their dearest friends and family travelled all over the United States. A highlight was walking to the lower level of the Grand Canyon. They toured throughout Canada, Europe, Central America, and the Middle East. Ireland was special, as it was Kay's ancestral home. Egypt was also special, as Rick planned it all.

She was a woman of many talents. Kay was an amazing cook, filling the house with sweets at the holidays and ensuring her family had healthy home cooked meals. Ahead of her time, Kay was an early adopter of the microwave, teaching others through adult education classes. Kay was an extraordinary seamstress, creating a dress at 12 for 4-H. She made her own wedding dress and later altered wedding dresses professionally at Bride's World. Kay created bespoke pieces for herself and those she loved.

Kay was a collector. She collected American Fostoria, dolls, nativities, pumpkins, laughs, and many friends.

Kay was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend.

She is survived by her husband, Rick; sons, Cristopher (Liana) and Neil (Katherine); daughter-in-law, Jennifer; grandchildren, Jeremy (Hannah, fiancée), Emma, Timothy, Carter, Jack, Valerie, Jessie, and Natalie; and countless other family and friends.

Kay was preceded in death by her parents; and oldest son, Theodore.

Visitation for friends will be 6-9 p.m. Thursday, July 25, 2024, at Toft Funeral Home, 2001 Columbus Ave, Sandusky. Kay's funeral will be 11 a.m. Friday, July 26, 2024, at Edison Memorial United Methodist Church, 10 East Church Street, Milan.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Care and Share Inc. of Erie County or Edison Memorial United Methodist Church.
