Laura May (Meinen) Beck Wagner, 96, of Bellevue, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 7, 2023, at The Willows at Bellevue where she had resided for the past year. Prior to that, she lived independently until the age of 95.
She was born Dec. 10, 1926, in Norwalk, the daughter of Henry and Myrtle (Hockley) Meinen. Laura attended and graduated from Townsend School in 1943. She married Roy D. Beck of Monroeville in 1944, and after his death, she married Clair "Popeye" Wagner in 1985.
Laura retired from United States Post Office, where she worked as a clerk in Monroeville. She was a longtime member of Flat Rock United Methodist Church and past member of VFW Auxiliary. She enjoyed gardening, especially her flowers, watching and feeding birds, and in winter months, crocheting and reading. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She is survived by two sons, Larry (Peggy) Beck of Bellevue and Jerry (Sherry) Beck of Bellevue; stepdaughter, Barbara (David) Belden of Smyrna, Tennessee; seven grandchildren, Tonya Kessler of Norwalk, Wendy (Steve) Plumley of Bellevue, Alex Beck of Goldsboro, North Carolina, Evan (Stephanie) Beck of Summerville, South Carolina, Autum (Chad) Ribitz of Fremont, Alicia (Derrick) Murray of Bellevue, and Grant (Tania) Belden of Nashville, Tennessee; six great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Laura was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Roy D. Beck in 1981; second husband, Clair J. "Popeye" Wagner in 2020; daughter, Linda Lou Kessler in 2008; son-in-law, Eugene Kessler in 2014; daughter, Virginia S. Beck in 1953 in infancy; sister, Lydia Schnee; brother, Earl Meinen; and great-granddaughter, Lilith Murray in 2016.
Laura's funeral will be 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 11, 2023, at Flat Rock Ebenezer Methodist Church, 7500 N. Seneca County Road 29, Flat Rock, Ohio, 44828. Pastor Ronald Ferguson will officiate. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery, Monroeville.
Memorials in Laura's honor may be made to Flat Rock Ebenezer United Methodist Church or Southern Care Hospice.
