Laurie Pitts Obituary

Laurie Grace Pitts

Oct 30, 1960 - Apr 13, 2024

Sandusky

Laurie G. (Fingerhuth) Pitts, 63, was called to Heaven following a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.

Born in Tiffin, Laurie was the middle child of Albert and Maureen (Gray) Fingerhuth. She was the sister of David (Kathy) Fingerhuth, Lisa Fingerhuth, Michael (Amy) Fingerhuth, and Amy (Ken) Gaietto.

A graduate of Tiffin Columbian High School, Laurie continued her education at Terra State Community College, earning a degree in Computer Science. In 1980, she was a founding employee of Northern Ohio Educational Computer Association (NOECA), one of 24 data processing and Information Technology Centers (ITC) in Ohio. Always leading by example, she retired as NOECA's longtime assistant director. She was a software specialist, recognized for her problem-solving expertise and timely assistance to many local area school administrators and staff as well as educational organizations throughout the state of Ohio. Following retirement, Laurie brought her skill set to Sandusky City Schools Board of Education where she discovered a new found purpose and an abundance of new friends.

Laurie and Larry Pitts were united in marriage Dec. 22, 1984, at Trinity United Church of Christ, Tiffin, with the Rev. Warner Siebert officiating. Everyone understood that Laurie was the very best thing to happen to Larry. She created a home full of love, caring, and peacefulness. Laurie was the family's strength, their counselor, their best friend, and salvation. Together, Larry and Laurie raised three children, Brock Pitts of Haw River, North Carolina, Ashley Pitts of Sandusky, and Abby (Caracci) Pitts of Westerville.

To know Laurie was to love Laurie. Her wisdom, empathy, kindness, lovingness, honesty, inner strength, understanding, patience, humility, respectfulness, humor, courage, and faith created an independent thinking, principled Golden Rule girl leading others with an extraordinary amount of common sense.

Laurie was classy and elegant. She was genuine. She was a wife, partner, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, daughter-in-law, and friend. Laurie loved family time on Hilton Head Island, her Welsh Corgis, and her ability to be a most prolific shopper. She was a lady. She was our "Gracie."

Laurie is survived by her husband, Larry; children, Brock (Sara), Ashley, and Abby (Dominic); granddaughters, Evelyn and Madeleine Pitts; all of her siblings; sister-in-law, Carol Pitts; and cousins, nephews, and nieces.

Laurie entered each of our hearts. Her memory and love will always be with each of us. Her life's journey is now complete. However, it is with certainty that just like on earth, she will be one of Heaven's most outstanding angels.

A private family observance will be at Toft Funeral Home, 2001 Columbus Ave., Sandusky, Ohio, 44870. A reception for friends and family will be 1 p.m. Saturday, April 27, 2024, at Sandusky Yacht Club, 529 E. Water St., Sandusky, Ohio, 44870.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Laurie's name to Stein Hospice, Erie County Cancer Services, or Cleveland Clinic Cancer Center, Judith and Richard Kinzel Campus.

Having gone to school with Laurie, it was always a treat to see her these many years after graduation. It would be as if no time had passed. Laurie's sweet personality and great sense of humor would easily take us back to our last conversation. She was a lovely person whose memory will always bring a warmth to our hearts.
