Lenore Margaret "Lee" Bates, 102, of Sandusky, peacefully passed away Sunday, Oct. 23, 2022, at Norwalk Memorial Home.
She was born June 20, 1920, in Toledo, to Roy and Mary Wernert. She was very faithful to her Catholic faith and was a parishioner over the years at the Toledo parishes of Blessed Sacrament, St. Pius, and Little Flower.
Lee loved her husband, her three children, and spending hours cooking and baking wonderful food, as well as keeping the house in perfect order for her family. Everyone loved her homemade chocolate pie, oatmeal cake, and green cottage cheese jello salad (to name just a few). She was always generous and willing to lend a hand, especially with the care of her grandchildren.
Lee is survived by her daughter, Sr. Joyce Marie Bates (a Sister of Notre Dame); daughter-in-law, Marcia Bates; son-in-law, Gary Schulz; six grandchildren, Ryan Laskey, Lisa (Laskey) Haas, Justin Bates, Todd and Troy Schulz, and Jena (Schulz) Stuckey; a number of nieces and nephews; and 15 great-grandchildren with one on the way.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Charles and James; sister, Rosemary (Wernert) Beckham; beloved husband of 57 years, James; and two children, James Bradley Bates and Mary Karen (Bates) Schulz.
Mass of Resurrection will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 26, 2022, at Saint Rose Catholic Church, 215 E. Front St., Perrysburg. Visitation will be 10-11 a.m. Wednesday at the church. Burial will be at a later date at Ottawa Hills Cemetery, Toledo.
Memorial contributions may be made to Sisters of Notre Dame for the new Casa de Hospitalidad ministry of Sr. Joyce.
