Marcia Niehm Obituary

Marcia Ann Niehm

Jul 10, 1954 - Nov 10, 2022

Sandusky

Marcia Ann Niehm, 68, residing in Sandusky, passed away at Parkvue Healthcare Center after a long battle with ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease).

Marcia was born July 10, 1954, in Sandusky, to the late Raymond M. and Virginia C. (Kluding) Niehm.

She graduated from Sandusky High School in 1972 and Bowling Green State University in 1976. She was an elementary school teacher in the Sandusky Public School system from 1976-2011, having taught at Monroe, Madison, and Hancock Elementary Schools. During her last five years of teaching, Marcia was a reading specialist and worked at all of the elementary school buildings.

Marcia enjoyed teaching elementary children immensely and continued to follow many of her former students as they continued in school and ultimately graduated. She was very proud to see them become contributing members of the Sandusky community.

She is survived by her brother, Bruce, and sister-in-law, Linda Niehm, of Ames, Iowa; nieces, Lindsey (Alex) Davis of Overland Park, Kansas, and Lauren Niehm of Miami, Florida; aunt, Marianne Scott of Sandusky; aunt, Constance Kluding of Port Clinton; special friends, Carla Mitchell, Tina Beatty, and Anna Smith; and numerous first and second cousins and other relatives.

The family would like to thank all who extended care, patience, and support to Marcia throughout this difficult journey, especially the nurses and staff at Parkvue Healthcare Center.

A private family funeral will take place at Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1607 E. Perkins Ave., Sandusky. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Sandusky. Groff Funeral Homes and Crematory is assisting family with arrangements, along with St. Mary's Catholic Church where Marcia was a member.

Those wishing to contribute to Marcia's memory may do so to ALS Association - Northern Ohio Chapter, 6133 Rockside Rd., Suite 301, Independence, Ohio, 44131. We hope that a cure may soon be found for this terrible disease.

Miss Niehm was my teacher at Madison school 1978. She was one of the most compassionate teachers I had. I kept contact with her through the years then she became one of my regular guests at Bob Evans. I will miss her dearly. Sending love and prayers to her family and friends.

My deepest sympathy to both Bruce & Linda and their daughters. You went above and beyond for her medical needs, never giving up to get her treatment and a diagnosis. She was a wonderful person, happy with such simple things in life. I'll treasure the time we spent together, our lunch dates and drives around Sandusky taking the route she dictated and all the stops to collect things she wanted. Carla, you are the true definition of a friend, you too went above and beyond for Marcia. She is at peace now with Mom & Dad once again. She will truly be missed. My love, thoughts and prayers to you all.

Miss Niehm was my Kindergarten teacher at Madison Elementary in 1976. No matter how much time passed, she always remembered me. She was a great asset to the Sandusky School system and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

I attended school with Marcia at Monroe Elementary and graduated from SHS with her. Years later, Marcia taught my daughter and was a wonderful teacher. My prayers for her family.
