Margaret A. Renwand, 66, of Sandusky, passed away Wednesday, March 27, 2024, at her home surrounded by her loved ones after courageously battling cancer for a year.

Margaret was born March 4, 1958, in Sandusky, to Dean and Eloise Renwand. After graduating from Sandusky St. Mary's High School 1976, she earned a Bachelor of Fine and Applied Arts from Akron University in 1981.

Margaret was dedicated to scouting and spent her life working for the Girl Scout organization. Her career spanned over 40 years, beginning as a camp counselor and later as a professional where she had many leadership positions in councils in the USA and around the world. She was Fund Development Officer in the Western Reserve Council, Akron Ohio (now Girl Scouts of NE Ohio), CEO of Fox Valley Council, Aurora, Illinois, CEO of USA Girl Scouts Overseas-North Atlantic (Europe), Senior Business Consultant, NYC, Senior Advisor National Volunteer Strategy, NYC, and Executive Director of USA Girl Scouts Overseas-Europe and Asia.

She was an active member of Girl Scout Staff Association (GSSA), served on National GSSA board, and was currently serving as Board Chair. Margaret was a board member of World Foundation of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts and assisted with organizational development. She was also a member of Juliette Gordon Low Society.

Margaret has received numerous awards during her career, most recently being inducted into the GSSA 2023 Hall of Fame and given the "The Contemplative Sun" from the Akron Roundtable. Other accolades were Army Outstanding Civilian Service Medal by General Carter Ham, Commanding General United States Army Europe, Girl Scouts of the USA Thanks Badge presented by Girl Scouts, Fox Valley Council, Commander's Coin presented by General Wald, Commanding General, US European Joint Command, Commander's Coin presented by Major General Zabecki US Army Europe, Kiwanis Committee Chair of the Year presented by the Kiwanis Club of Aurora, and Best Costume Design Award presented by Weathervane Community Playhouse of Akron, Ohio 1993 and 1996.

She will be remembered for her generous, vibrant spirit, and fun-loving nature. Margaret was a bold, positive force advocating for many causes. She lived the Girl Scout values of courage, confidence, and character. She enjoyed entertaining, hosting gatherings, and was an accomplished Italian culinarian. Family and community involvement were the focus of her dedication and service over her lifetime. She was active at St. Mary's Church serving on both the Finance Committee and as a lector. She also served her community as an election worker and member of Democratic Women of Erie County. She was a world traveler and enjoyed visiting old friends and making new ones. Her interests were golf, theatre productions, yoga, reading, and cooking.

Margaret is survived by her mother, Eloise Renwand; two brothers and three sisters, David (Linda) Renwand, Beth (Michael) Frank, Donna (Joseph) McPeek, William H. Renwand, and Julie (Mark Santi) Renwand; nieces and nephews, Alex Renwand, Melissa Renwand, Gina (Bradford) Thomas, Daniel (Archie Falandys) Frank, Josephine (Brad) Maguth, Christian (Angel) McPeek, Grace (Noel) Moreno, Tony (Abigail Dempsey) Renwand, Andrew Renwand, Jennifer (Aaron Scallion) Grathwol, and Michael (Sophie)Grathwol; 18 great-nieces and great-nephews, Braden, Gianna, Ava, Ethan, Oliver, Wesley, Ronan, Rose, Max, Maggie, Gabe, Noah, Heidi, Sadie, Clare, Patrick, Mary, and Daniel; and cousins, Thomas (Sandra) Renwand, Mary Ann (Bob) Slagel, and Maria Grazia Tamborini.

She was preceded in death by her father, Dean Renwand; grandparents, William G. and Clarabell Renwand and Henry and Vittorina Balconi; uncle, Donald; aunt, Martha Renwand; great-uncle, Luigi Tamborini; and great-aunt, Ida Brusa.

Visitation for family and friends will be 4-7 p.m. Wednesday, April 3, 2024, at Toft Funeral Home & Crematory, 2001 Columbus Avenue, Sandusky. Mass of Christian burial will be 10 a.m. Thursday, April 4, 2024, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 429 Central Avenue, Sandusky.

So, sorry for your loss. I wanted to be there in person but currently have an illness that I wouldn´t want to share. The world lost a great woman. She truly will be missed by all who knew her.

I worked with Margaret at Girl Scouts. She was magnetic and although our paths crossed briefly she was impactful and I´ll never forget her. She made a mark on my journey and in so sad for this loss to our movement and her community.

Marggie was a kind and adventurous soul. I remember her infectious laugh and her curious nature. She will be missed but will live on in the memories she made with those she touched.
