Mary Gallagher Obituary

Mary Ann Gallagher

Jan 30, 1938 - Mar 11, 2024

Huron

Mary Ann Gallagher, 86, residing in Huron, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family Monday, March 11, 2024, after a lengthy illness.

Mary was born Jan. 30, 1938, in Sandusky, to Glenn W. and Kathryn B. (Hudson) Welschenbach.

Mary was a 1956 graduate of Sandusky High School. She was employed by Ohio Bell as a switchboard operator. She married Thomas F. Gallagher, also of Sandusky, on Oct. 12, 1957. She was a prior member of Heartbeat of Sandusky, was an avid gardener, and enjoyed bird watching, traveling, and baking, especially her amazing pies. She was a committed member of Sts. Peter & Paul Church where she taught CCD classes, served with the choir, and was a member of the funeral committee. Throughout her life, she always put the needs of others before her own. She cherished her role as a wife of 58 years, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, care giver, and friend. She was the support system of her family to whom she taught many invaluable life lessons.

Mary is survived by two daughters, Colleen (Todd) Valli of Cincinnati and Cathleen (Don) Baker of Amherst; son, Kevin (Erin Schooley) of Bowling Green; nine grandchildren, Thomas R., Gian Carlo, Angelo, Mason, Alyssa, Max, Romy, Jett, and Sloane; two great-grandchildren, Rhea and Caterina; cousin, Laurie Wilson; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Thomas; son, Daniel; and beloved sister, Sally Black.

Mary's family wishes to extend special thanks to her care team, Marian, Tracie, Beth, Terri, Rosemary, Denise, Biscuit, and other long-term caregivers that have given countless hours of compassionate care. Our goal was to keep Mary in her home as she aged and we could not have done so without their many years of excellent care and companionship. The staff at Stein Hospice also provided Mary with exemplary care in the last days of her life, notably Donna, Dawn, Macy, Bonny, and Susie.

Visitation for friends will be 4-7 p.m. Tuesday, March 19, 2024, at Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1607 E. Perkins Ave., Sandusky. Prayers will be recited at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 20, 2024, at the funeral home followed by Mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. at Sts. Peter & Paul Church, 510 Columbus Ave., Sandusky. Burial will take place after Mass at Meadow Green Memorial Park, Huron.

Those wishing to contribute to Mary's memory may do so to Stein Hospice, 1200 Sycamore Line, Sandusky, Ohio, 44870, Sts. Peter & Paul Church, 510 Columbus Ave., Sandusky, or Back to the Wild Inc., P.O. Box 423, Castalia, Ohio, 44824.
