Matthew Morrow Obituary

Dr. Matthew E. Morrow M.D.

Jan 20, 1964 - Jan 29, 2026

Sandusky

Matthew E. Morrow, 62, residing in Sandusky, passed away unexpectedly early Thursday morning, January 29, 2026, at Firelands Regional Medical Center.

Matt was born on January 20, 1964, in Lincoln, Nebraska, to the late John and Mary (Schaefer) Morrow.

Matt graduated from Notre Dame High School in Sherman Oaks, California, in 1982. He earned his undergraduate degree from Santa Clara University and went on to attend medical school at Creighton University, where he met his wife. Following medical school, Matthew completed his residency at Creighton University and his fellowship at the University of Missouri. He and his wife moved to Ohio to work at Providence Hospital, after which he practiced with Sandusky Orthopedics and Rheumatology. Most recently, he was serving patients at Sandusky Rheumatology. Matt practiced medicine for more than 30 years, touching countless lives through his compassionate care and commitment to healing.

A man of deep faith, Matt was a devoted member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and an active participant in the Men's Group. In his free time, he enjoyed hunting and fishing of all kinds, boating, and spending time at the family's home on Kelleys Island. He was an avid reader and a passionate sports fan, remaining loyally committed to Cleveland teams, even when they tested his patience. Above all else, Matt cherished his family and treasured the time spent with them. He found the greatest joy in always being present in his wife's and children's lives and in their events.

Matt is survived by his wife of 30 years, Kathy Morrow. He is also survived by his daughter, Sara Morrow; son, Joe (Anna) Morrow; sister-in-law, Heather Morrow; brothers-in-law, Dave (Julie) Ermer and Steve (Nancy) Ermer; aunt, JoAnn (Dan) Meara; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

In addition to his parents, Matt is preceded in death by his brother, Dan Morrow and his infant sister, Elizabeth Morrow.

Friends may call from 4-7 p.m. Monday, February 2, 2026, at Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1607 E. Perkins Ave., Sandusky. Prayers will be recited at the funeral home at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, February 3, 2026, followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 429 Central Ave. Sandusky. This one hurts... really bad. I have been friends with Matt since 1978; we met in high school. We were roommates at Santa Clara. We have been hunting and fishing buddies ever since. I am devastated for Kathy and Sara and Joe and Anna. I am so glad we both went on our North Dakota trip last year; I just didn't know it would be our last good bye. I am heart broken; I am angry; I am numb; I am in disbelief. But I am also glad as I know Matt was a good man, a man of faith. God speed, my dear friend. I hope to see you on the other side.
