Michael James Daniel, 68, of Bay View, passed away peacefully early Thursday, December 18, 2025, at Stein Hospice after a hard three-year battle with multiple myeloma.
Mike was born February 23, 1957, in Sandusky, to Robert James and Jane Eleanor (Gerold) Daniel.
He graduated from Sandusky High School, where he learned welding and construction, a career he was passionate about his entire life. After high school, Mike travelled around the United States to work in construction, welding, and sheet piling before returning to live in Sandusky. He worked with various construction and welding companies over the years before doing his own work on boat houses and personal projects after retirement.
Mike was passionate about fishing, gardening, and woodworking, and often spent plenty of time in his garage workshop doing projects and visiting with friends. He enjoyed time out on his boat, perch fishing, and morel mushroom hunting in the springtime. Mike enjoyed taking drives along the lake shore and spending time near water, including taking trips to Kelleys Island, where he worked and met his wife, Sue. They were married on Kelleys Island, June 5, 1993.
Mike is survived by his wife of 32 years, Suzanne (Schock) Daniel of Sandusky; daughter, Kayla Daniel (Austin Murphy - fiance) of Delaware, Ohio; mother, Jane (Gerold) Daniel, Sandusky; sisters and brothers, Susan Daniel, Sandusky, Patricia (Daniel) Dawson, Columbus, Mark (Lisa) Daniel, Bend, Oregon, and Andrew Daniel, Sandusky; nieces and nephew, Kelly Dawson, Sarah (David) Zapata, Lauren (David) Beltramo, Matt Daniel, Darcy (Sloan) Session, Nicholas (Ashley) Schock, Heather (Craig) Szymczak, and Anthony (Abby) Schock; and great nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his sisters and brothers-in-law, Mary Daniel, Mike (Tracey) Schock, and Kelly (Jo) Schock; along with a large extended Daniel and Gerold families.
He was preceded in death by his father, Robert J. Daniel; brother, Pete Daniel; father and mother-in-law, Jack and Barb Schock; maternal grandparents, Pierre and Eleanor Gerold; and paternal grandparents, Cyril and Eleanor Daniel; and other family members.
The family will receive friends and family from 1-4 p.m. Saturday, December 27, 2025, at David F. Koch Funeral and Cremation Services, 520 Columbus Avenue, Sandusky.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to be made in his memory to the Foundation for Firelands Cancer Program, 1111 Hayes Ave,
Sandusky, OH 44870, to support others in their fight against cancer.
