Michael Hallock Obituary

Michael W. "Buck" Hallock

Apr 27, 1951 - Jul 22, 2024

Sandusky

Michael W. "Buck" Hallock, 73, of Sandusky, passed away Monday morning, July 22, 2024, at Providence Care Center, Sandusky.

Buck was born April 27, 1951, in Sandusky, the son of Leslie Clark and Betty Mae (Fritz) Hallock. He was a 1969 graduate of Sandusky High School and also graduated from Bowling Green State University. He was a salesman for many years for organizations like Chef's Pantry, Sysco Foods, and Maple City Ice Co. Retiring in 2016, Buck was well-known around town as the "Bud Man."

Buck was a devoted sports fan, from his beloved Ohio State Buckeyes to the often-heartbreaking Cleveland professional sports teams. He routinely shared stories with friends and family about his days playing basketball for his alma mater Blue Streaks, incredible golf shots in the Elks 19th Hole and Mills Creek City Leagues, and sometimes far-fetched "records" which no one could verify... Buck was always quick to call his grandkids after games to provide his post-game analysis, areas to improve, and to remind them to "give 'em the elbow."

One of his proudest achievements was serving as a basketball referee for 42 seasons. Buck made the phrase "No blood, no foul" famous at all levels, including grade school. And he was quick to inform both coaches there wouldn't be a whistle in the first half if their game happened to fall on Dartball night. He spent his younger years with friends and family at establishments like Poon's and Manny's, often informing the bartenders to "Beam me up!" He spent his later years enjoying time at casinos playing Mississippi Stud and Three-Card Poker, and enjoying bus trips with his beloved HunBun.

Buck was a man of great conviction. Whether it was getting railings installed at Sandusky High, a city ordinance, or even the "right" way to get to a particular high school for a game, he was certain to make you aware of his opinion and to enforce that it was the only one that was correct. Friends and family members alike always knew where they stood with Buck, right, or was as most common, wrong.

Buck was a lifelong Sanduskian and loved all aspects of what that meant, including its resurgence in the last decade. Buck would often drive around town just to "see the sights" even though he had spent his entire life there. He frequently brought grandkids with him to see the shoreline, freighters, or trains, just to enjoy his town and all it had to offer.

Buck was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Sandusky Elks Lodge #285, American Legion Post #83, Sandusky Orioles Club Nest #279, V.F.W. Post #2529, and Knights of Columbus Council #546.

He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Diane L. (Snow) Hallock; son, Michael W. (Molly) Hallock Jr. of Kettering; stepdaughter, Erin Barajas of Colorado Springs, Colorado; stepson, Jared (Tricia) Oliver of Sandusky; numerous grandchildren; two sisters, Kathy Nestor of Huron and Beth (Mike) Sandwisch of Port Clinton; three brothers, James (Michelle) Hallock of Murfreesboro, Tennessee, Tim (Michelle A.) Hallock of Norwalk, and Dan (Jennifer) Hallock of Sandusky; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Buck was preceded in death by his parents.

At his request, cremation has taken place.

Mass of Christian burial will be 10 a.m. Monday, July 29, 2024, at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, 510 Columbus Avenue, Sandusky. Fr. Chris Turner will officiate. A celebration of Buck's life will follow from 4-6:30 p.m. Monday at Mylander Pavilion, 229 W. Shoreline Drive, Sandusky.

The family suggests that memorial contributions may be made in his name to Sandusky Blue Streaks Booster Club, P.O. Box 1444, Sandusky, Ohio, 44870, or B.G.S.U. Baseball Team, Attn: Kyle Hallock, 1419 Wren Road, Bowling Green, Ohio, 43402.

Arrangements have been entrusted to David F. Koch Funeral and Cremation Services, 520 Columbus Avenue, Sandusky.

To Diane & Family
To Kathy, Beth, Jim, Tim, & Dan and families:

Annie and I are very sorry to hear of the passing of Buck. He was a great guy and arguably the biggest Buckeyes and Browns fan on the planet.

I will never forget his unmistakable voice and laugh.

I am sure Buck knows the secret password to the pearly gates. It is simply: Hanttthhh Up!!

RIP Buck. You will be deeply missed.
