Oliver Wendell Holmes Jr., 82, of Avon Lake, peacefully passed away with his beloved wife by his side Saturday, Jan. 14, 2023.

He was born Sept. 14, 1940, in Willard, to Oliver and Clara (nee Beckstein) Holmes Sr.

Oliver, who was also known as "Ollie" or "Sonny," was a high school graduate of Bellevue High School. He was a proud U.S. Navy veteran. He was a member of American Legion Post 211 and Church of the North Coast. Ollie enjoyed being outdoors fishing, hunting, bird watching, and riding his tractors. As someone that enjoyed keeping his hands busy, he also enjoyed carpentry and gardening. Clam bakes, playing kick ball, and an ice cream were also on that list. His true joy came from spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Pauline of 59 years; loving children, Sheila Nelson (Ray), Robin Holmes, Stephanie Brewer, and Denise Emerson (Jim); cherished grandchildren, Erica (Jason), Sara (Chuck), Jessica, Ally, Morgan, Rachel, Jimmy, Lexi, and Evan; great-grandchildren, Noah, Vita, and Hudson; and dear sister, Lois Landoll.

He was preceded in death by his beloved son, Brian Holmes; parents; sisters, Clara, Flora Mae, and Gloria; and brothers, Frederick and Larry.
