Omar R. Oakes, 31, of Sandusky, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, Jan. 26, 2023, at Firelands Regional Medical Center after a lengthy illness.
Omar was born July 4, 1991, in Sandusky, to Roy Oakes Sr. and Karen Coleman.
He earned his G.E.D. in 2010 and worked several jobs.
Omar is survived by his parents; sister, Shak'la Oakes; brothers, Damarius Coleman and Roy Oakes Jr.; nieces, Dzire Oakes and Kierstin Churchwell; grandmother, Lorine Alexander; bonus sister, Tara Churchwell; special friends, Susan Flournoy, Martika Johnson, and Tiffany Getts; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, friends, and other relatives.
Omar was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Robert Coleman and Bobby Reed; grandmother, Carrie Mae Oakes; and great-grandparents, Sam and Lannie Anderson and Wesley Groves.
Visitation will be 2-4 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2023, at Toft Funeral Home & Crematory, 2001 Columbus Ave., Sandusky. Omar's funeral will be 4 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with the Rev. Curtis L. Johnson Jr. presiding. Private burial at a later date will be at Oakland Cemetery.

My prayers, thoughts and condolences, go out to you Roy and your family,in the passing of your son,Omar. May God mend & strengthen your broken hearts... I had the pleasure of working with Omar at one time. Such a good guy! He always told it like it was. No matter what!! He'd make me chuckle & laugh, over things he'd say, in honesty.
